My girlfriend bought a used 2011 Ford Escape V6. It has 27K on it. She bought it from a Chevy dealer. They performed an oil change on before they put it on their lot. They probably used what ever bulk 5w30 they had. I went to Wallyworld today and picked up oil and a filter. I will do a OCI at 30K. She drives 60 miles round trip to work and back. So the OLM will probably take it to around 10K I guess.

The 5 quart jug had a $4.00 coupon on it. So that brought it down to $20.97. The extra quart is what got me. It was $6.97. That's almost double what the 5 quarts each come out to. The filter was $9.63. So, for around $40.00. I will put in a quality oil and filter for the next OCI.

That's what I was gonna say. I went looking for PU and can't seem to find it...

The Escape requires 6 qts so the 5 qt. jugs are a blessing and a curse. I try to buy 6 quart synthetic cases from BJ's, Costco, those kind of places for my wife's Mariner.

I would have gotten 2 jugs PP and redeemed 2 coupons for a savings of 8$.

Then, you just buy a single jug for each consecutive change metering off 1L off of the other jug to make your 6L per change.

I am not a big fan of paying extra for 1L sizes.

Me too. If it takes 6 quarts buy 5 jugs. The oils isn't going to spoil before the next oil change and just use the open jug for the next interval, then you've never got an open jug for longer than 1 interval.

901Memphis, good idea.

Buy 1 5L jug of PYB on sale and use that as the 6th liter of the oil change.

Cheap and wont affect a 6L oil capacity in performance that much to even care.

The PYB will contain higher concentrations of phosphorus and moly than the PP, and also get some Boron in the mix too, which is absent in PP. I think it would work perfect. Most of the other additives are very similar, like calcium, zinc, magnesium.

My FX4 uses 7 QTs of oil and back when I was using Pennzoil Ultra, I would buy seven 5QT jugs at a time (about $27 each) to prevent paying nearly $16 for 2 single QTs of PU per OC. Yes, it was quite a bit to spend all at once, but $5.40 per quart for the two singles was better than $7.97 per quart.

I think you made a great purchase. Yes you could have gotten a better deal by following everyone's advice from above but your already saving a ton of money by doing it your self.

A synthetic oil change at the dealership would have cost you at least double what you paid and they wouldn't have used a filter that matches the quality of that Fram.
