I miss fram oil filters

I miss the OG Ultra and Titanium. Fram is not the same company it once was. First Brands strikes again….
Since they cheaped those out there's not a single oil filter I've been truly impressed with, the only "good" filters now seem to be all the generic Asian ones Pentius or Pemium Gaurd or equivalent, all the American brands seem to be having terrible consistency issues, the new Carquest EP 20k filters look pretty promising but if you're not buying it with an oil change bundle $17 a pop is a little steep.

I believe he’s talking about an internal leak we’ve found in some c&p’s. The leaf spring stamping has been pretty horrible lately. Gaps are sometimes present where the leaf spring is supposed to seal on the end cap. Although it’s less common on fiber end cap Frams and more common on the Ultra and Endurance.
Tough Guard for the Fram win !

i have used fram eg's and tg's in the past there's nothing wrong with em. even tried the titanium which came with an oil/filter sale at advance auto once. i wouldn't normally spend that much on a filter and oil purchase but i had a gift card. i would have no issue using a fram again.

I recently opened a new tough guard 7317. They went back the the classic construction with fiber end caps and the holes in the center tube. No light leaked past the bypass when I shined a light through it

It's OEM, supertech (depending) or fram for me....Im not sure I trust AutoZone to facilitate warranty for the filter if something fails. The PG filters do look good though. Yes its rare but I'm more concerned about catastrophic failure and resulting warranty claim rather that a theoretical tiny leak.
Catastrophic failure is so rare in any brand of filter, that I think your right brain can rest easy. Small leaks for whatever reason? You may get away with one, but I think that has happened to many of us. I actually had what would have been a catastrophic filter failure of sorts. The mechanic opened the NAPA jobber filter box with a utility knife and sliced clean through the rubber gasket, and installed without noticing. Every drop of oil came out on my driveway. The mechanic was so open and apologetic, and said he would do whatever to make it right. Still driving the vehicle 120,000 miles later, but not for this reason, do all the oil changers myself.
