Of course because people are cheap and cheap products are the first to go always.

Or maybe because many people understand the difference between price and value?
ST is a very good value at its everyday price.
The savy shopper can do much better with other oils, though.
That does require planning ahead, something many folks seem not to do.

Yes, although I've never used it, I know there's nothing wrong with SuperTech oil. SuperTech is cheap in price, but not quality.

unless your car specifies synthetic, there is no point in using a synthetic oil for 3700 miles...any brand name dino oil will be more then sufficient.

I could have saved $3 by getting the ST conventional. The factory fill and dealer oil change was Mobil 5000 and a Nissan branded Fram oil filter.

people might be cheap and yes cheap products do sell faster but all my years in the engine business i never ever had one person say that their engine blew up because of super tech

Nothing wrong with the Fram filter. I'd use a Fram Orange can any day of the week and twice on Sunday over a Tearlolater, oops I mean Purolator.

I switched my 2006 Durango 4.7L to SuperTech 5w20 full synthetic and WIX filter.
$17 for 5Q synthetic was too good to pass up.
Truck idles like a sewing machine and seems to have regained some lost power.
Really impressed with the quality of oil at the price of most dinos.

Have you had one fail, or are you just riding the bandwagon?

I'm riding the bandwagon. Why risk it? I'm not a cheapskate, I'll pay good money for good parts/oil/filter.

Do you buy the $14.99 brake pads at O'Reilly's?

Enough said. As a proud Purolator user I will vouch for them, and Im glad the OP was willing to go out and try it on his own and not let hysteria influence his decisions. Good job OP!

I hope you are joking...$17.47 - 12.72 = $4.75 + tax, should be a saving of $5 dollars, unless you think it is "cheap" insurance, which is an absolutely absurd excuse.

I am looking at the Puralator filter tearing issue just like any other manufactures defect. It is more than likely blown out of perportion and the perspective has been lost. My dad worked for a Ford/Motorcraft distributore for well over 30 years. In that time and even today he uses only Motorcraft oil and filters. He has never had a Motorcraft/Puralator filter fail in over 30 years of use. Every car/part maker has their moments of a bad car or a bad part. Just because Puralator had a few bad filters get through does not mean their entire filter line is junk. I picked what I did based on overall value for the money. A Fram costs about $1.50 more and I am sure it is a fine filter (in the real world.....cardboard has nothing to do with it ability to filter). Warren oil to me is like the generic line at the food store. Just because it does not have a huge big over advertized name does not mean it is a poor product. I picked that combo of filter and oil based on research and my past history through my dad of over 30 years of use with the filter brand.

AAP online after discount:
Fram OC $2.57
Purolator $2.57

they are the same cost after online discounts from AAP, unless you don't have one near you, I don't see how the "cheaper cost" is an issue, AAP does ship to your door steps as well...

Purolator have had enough tears on BITOG for most people to not want to "risk" it, if someone is on that "band wagon" doesn't mean they are wrong...if a company is having quality control issues and consumers have decided to use another product because of that, doesn't make them "wrong" again, because that is what you are arguing in your long sob story of how great they have been for you in the past 30 years, it was a favorite on BITOG until that issue, so stop trying to convince people they are "wrong" because they are on some "band wagon".

It is idiotic to keep using the same product that has failed to perform it's job, and a tear is exactly that, there wasn't 1 or 2 tears found on BITOG, I'm sure there is at least 5-10 reported cases, out of the people who actually cut them on BITOG, that is pretty alarming, if you think your AWESOME 30 years of experience will someone magically prevent a tear then please go ahead and use it, I have nothing against someone using a product that I may not be for, but to convince someone else that they are wrong because they are on a "band wagon" because a product is having quality control issues, is not logical...

this is not sports, where sports fan expect other fans to be loyal to a certain team/brand and not be on the "band wagon" for winning teams...

A waste of good resources....and $$$ as well.

A good syn (even Super Tech Syn) can easily go further, even with 'severe' service. Extend your OCI out to at least 5000 or even 6000. Your vehicle should be out of warranty by now.

And another question; As a certified Amsoil Dealer, why are you not useing Amsoil ?

The car has nearly 20500 miles on it. Yes I became a lifetime Amsoil dealer back in 1996. I have never made any real money selling it. Sure it is a good oil but even at my dealer cost an oil change with OE is nearly $50 with the shipping included.

I don't know where you are in VA but I'm sure you know about the warehouse in Richmond...when I lived near Charlottesville it made sense to run over there for a day of museums etc and pick up a couple years' worth of oil...

I am all for staying in warranty, so keeping with the 3750 OCI makes sense. Once out of warranty perhaps going back to Amsoil and extending would make sense.

For those of us with GM cars, is the ST Synthetic certified as dexos1?

This oil is not specified to meet any individual vehicle manufactures oil specifications. It meets the current API specs.
