Hey guys,

Based on your recommendations, I bought some Techron as a fuel system cleaner since they don't stock Redline in Canada anymore, Techron has gotten great reviews from you folks, and I was down in the US the other day near an Autozone haha.

Anyways, they had it for $9 a bottle. I bought 3, used one already. Should I be expecting any boost in performance or fuel efficiency?

Techron is a good fuel additive. Some guys add an ounce at every fill up to compensate for lower quality fuel. Whether you see an instant increase in performance is hard to say. If you can't find Ref Line there try Gumout Regane fuel system cleaner. It has more PEA than Techron and could give a faster performance improvement.

TEchron has a decent amount of the "good stuff" in it (is it p.e.a. ???) - although not as much as some other products. I would not expect miracles or in increase in mpg - simply a light cleaning of the valves and combustion chamber.

I once had an idle issue with my Ram after winter storage(it gets stored every winter) and oddly enough it was a Prestone cleaner that fixed it (even a manual cleaning of the IAC did not fix the problem)

Techron is great stuff, I put in a bottle every oil change. A lot of people have successfully used it to "fix" bad Corvete Fuel Gages. Techron Plus is even better. It has about 10 times as much in as their gas.

Techron has a high concentration of PEA in it. That's a proven chemical for cleaning deposits. If you can snag it on sale, you've got a winning combination.

I believe AZ has the 20oz bottles on sale right now for $9.99.

The other two with high PEA levels are Red Line SL-1 and Gumout Regane, both of which are available at most auto parts stores.

They didn't have it in stock last time I checked, but they do have Regane now, thankfully.

Techron has been around for a long time and it's been written up in car magazines as being an excellent product for cleaning the inside. It's alittle expensive for the large bottle but well worth it. I too use it everytime I have my truck/car serviced as a fuel supplement. Gas prices in California are rising and it's good insurance when using a non-brand gasoline.

I'm a fan of Redline SI-1 and Amsoil PI but recently I have been using Motomaster Fuel System Cleaner in the clear bottle (red coloured fluid) and it's been fantastic...

Great stuff. I used it in my chronic pinger and it cleaned up the intake valves. No more pinging.

Yeah, I have used it mainly for maintenacne but it did work for me one time when I couldn't keep an older car idling. Added Tecron in the tank and in about 2-3 days, everything was back to normal. The engine started fine but each time I came to a stop, I had to throw the transmission into "N" and lightly apply the gas until I was ready to take off again. It even helped in this same car with the sticking float which was showing 1/4 tank lower than it really was. I like too!

The same thing happened to me with a well-maintained 2000 Cadillac Deville Northstar. I am almost certain that it was bad gas.

It was two or three years ago - I don't remember exactly - but it was the first time I filled it at a local brand name station and noticed the new "10% ethanol" stickers on their pumps. The engine started running rough at idle and I had to sit in neutral with my foot revving the gas pedal to keep it going at red lights. After a couple of days of that, I took it to my mechanic and he tested all the sensors that cause such problems electrically and all of them tested normal. I had an appointment to take it in a couple of days later for him to troubleshoot by substituting new parts - and filled it again on the way home. No additives, just a fill up on top of the 1/8 of a tank or so that was in it at the time. The next day, it was running fine again. I cancelled the appointment with my mechanic.

My mechanic later told me that several of his customers had problems about that time that he decided must have been due to "junk" being picked in the bottoms of the gas station storage tanks by the ethanol when they first added it. When I filled up again, I diluted the "junk" that I had gotten the first time and the problems went away. If I had added Techron or MMO [both of which I sometimes use] with that fill up, I would no doubt have a testimonial - but it was just the new gas.

The only two additives I've used are Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner, 20oz bottle, every third or fourth fill up in the gas tank and Tuf Oil 5 ounces at every oil change in the crank case.

Love the Tuf Oil for the silky smooth running of my 4Runner and the Techron for keeping the fuel system, injectors and manifold free of carbon and dirt.
