i blew the whistle ...

There are some workplaces that are toxic, as a midlevel supervisor consciously or unconsciously takes on "project" employees with all kinds of crazy issues. Had a boss with four girls, no boys of his own, so he hired "lost boys" to get that discipline need out of his blood.

Get out, the whole world is not against you, but "clusters" tend to form.

Yes, I think you did the right thing.

In hindsight a different approach may have been safer. Since the activity was illegal you could have tried tipping the authorities. They have much more incentive to protect the anonymity of their sources. Then when the authorities busted them, you could act surprised like everyone else.

Obviously your employer does not have a "Whistle blower Policy)Too bad.

It seems that you do have a cause of action that some agency could help with but my experience with Gov agencies are that they are all employer biased. For example, employer I know has not paid withheld 401K amounts to mutual fund. After resigning the employee goes to the Employment Board and wants to file a complaint, Board says first you have to ask employer for your money back. That is not the issue, but that is the way these agencies are biased towards the employer. Kind of off base, just venting

I would have flipped him the bird and and walk away.

Don't give up your Morals, just because he is a lousy super.

I would be looking for something else PRONTO my friend.

If you can go to sleep at night with clear conscious then you did the right thing. That said, you seem to be working in a toxic environment with a bunch of, what crinkles described eloquently, wankers.

As a result, you need to start looking for a new job as it is obvious that the bad behavior that you reported is not only tolerated but is also encouraged.

For the next time, it is good to remember that for whistle blowing, you need to build a very good case - airtight and bulletproof so that it can stand in court. After the whistle blowing, one should be 99% certain that he or she is going to be fired. But not for whistle blowing. It will be for something else and the OP's situation is a classic example. They will micro-manage him until they find something and fire him. A bulletproof case is needed so that the whistle blower can than sue the company in question.

You absolutely did the right thing. Unfortunately, it sometimes feels like the good people are the ones who get punished in the end. No matter what happens, at least you can sleep an night.

As somebody who will some day be elderly... Thank you for doing the right thing.

If I was in your shoes, I'd go above your supervisor and report it to his/her manager. I'd make it known that there is some shiesty stuff going down.

Notify the manager that this behavior is illegal and reflects badly on the company/business. If they still want to give you flack about it, quit and file a lawsuit.

I wouldn't handle that stuff very well.

And my father always told me to never quit - make them fire you. Highly important if you want unemployment.
