First Post here on BITOG, but I've been reading here for a long time

I ran across this filter yesterday. I work at an independent auto repair, and some of the management wanted me to look into this product. Obviously it is not a product for all customers

Basically, it is a stainless steel mesh filter in a swappable basket, that comes out and can be cleaned/serviced/reused.

I'm looking at their claims, and looking for honest opinions and possibly more info.

Lots of threads on here on various stainless steel mesh oil filters, and the usual conclusion is that the cost isn't justified. What is the average retail on one of these? Some others seen here on BITOG cost say $150 or more. If you are purchasing filters for $10 each (a lot of filters cost less) and run each one for 7500 miles you won't break even on the mesh filter until 112,500 miles. Then add in the cost of the cleaning machine and the hassle, and most people just go with the disposables.

I am told that the retail price is $89

The cleaning will be done at shop, we are looking at this for retail customers (I know most of us at BITOG, myself included, are DIY'ers)

So you'll charge for the cleaning at each OCI? I wouldn't be surprised if that is the future for oil changes, considering the environmental advantages.

Might be a good filter, but I take exception to some of their claims. Such as that paper filters are only 50 % efficient, and that there filter doesn't need an ADBV because they are only there to keep the paper from drying out.

not spreading the work, just doing free market research lol

yea, I'm a bit skeptical myself. that's why I'm trying to gather more info. some real-world info would be great, but it may be too new of a product.

In general, companies like HUBB should really not let the marketing department create the marketing materials! They always overhype the product in a way that actually detracts from its appeal to people in the know. As old1 points out there are some incorrect statements about so-called "paper" filters, and besides there are also full synthetic filters available at reasonable prices.

Let's see-$89 for a Hubb, the Fram Ultra is around $9 & good for 15,000 miles, that's 10 Ultras for 150,000 miles worth-that's a pretty long break-even time. Also where does the alleged "30% carbon emissions savings" come from? It won't be from all the energy & chemicals spent cleaning it!

Does anybody make a spin-on filter replacement filter housing that takes disposable cartridge filters? I think that might be the way to go.

True, this is very true for a DIY person. We are looking for offering this to retail customers. JUST RESEARCH RIGHT NOW.

Some customers want something fancy and shiny

now this is impressive ,nonono not for the material used lol .give me on break on that part .no what is impressive is the primary and secondary filter within the same enclosure this design is what is impresive by having a secondary filter it add no restriction and add . also the 95 % efficacity rating is not very relevent in this design because it is for each filter .this means if you had 95 % of getting say 1 particule of dirth say that 1 dirth passed you get 95 % of chance again for it not passing the secondary filter . this design is overkill for most but it is brilliant .

as for screwing the innard secondary filter? why bother .the fuel cap freighliner use is very simple you push the cap and its spring loaded you turn a quater of a turn and it lock there very durable and very efficient

With only a 100K mile warranty you may not get to 112,500

ya i baught my last supertech st6607 at walmart for 2:84 .they were all 2:84$ its very hard to justify an uber filter to your better half

Do you have any idea what size that wire mesh you speak of is? This iis something that I am going to look into building on my own - I did some research on stainless steel mesh and how to pick the right sizes - seen here - Wire Mesh Sizing - Belleville

Can you do me a favor and count the number of wires per inch? Or the number of openings per inch? They should be the same - also do you know for a fact that this is stainless steel?
