How many miles on your clutch?

I've got 69,500 miles on the clutch in my truck. The clutch is still fine, but the release bearing is making a ton of noise on startup, so I will probably replace everything pretty soon. It's a shame really that I'll be taking out a perfectly good clutch. Maybe I'll give it to my dad to use in his work truck.

I think I know what you mean. When I first got my Saturn I did a few launches in it and the clutch was still slipping after I completely let off the clutch pedal. Since Ive gotten it the clutch has always engaged at the top travel of the pedal. It seems like it is almost gone but we'll see how much longer is left.

LS1Mike, you can can about 175 horses for just about $10k new in a bike 1 kilo per horse. More power than you'll ever need but the guys still mod them anyways.

I replaced mine on my Saturn at 96,000 miles. I bought the car with 88,000 miles but the original owner may have been bad with the clutch.

Plus, I believe Saturn cheapened the Saturn clutch around the year 2000. The older Saturns have better/longer lasting clutches.

My dad had 160,000 miles on his 1997 Chevy S10 with original clutch before it was t-boned and written off as a loss from the insurance co.

Likely less than 5000 on my truck. I had to replace it last year. The throw out bearing has less than that. The one I bought at Oreily's failed in less than 6 months. All the parts I have bought there were junk, junk, junk. The truck only has about 144 K on it, and is on the third clutch. However, I mostly use it around town seldom making more than a half mile between stops.

I think the one in my 02 Cavalier has about 160 K.

I have the service records from the previous owner of my 94 Prizm and no clutch replacement.

I'm a tank of fuel away from 245K miles and am on the factory clutch.

Currently 219k on the car, but I purchased it with 107k and no idea if it was previously replaced, so it could have only 112k on it.

I thought those cars only came with auto trans?

I got about 775 bucks in my current clutch setup just on parts and I would be tickled pink if it lasted 25k miles.......

lightweight aluminum flywheel
clutchnet clutch disc
clutchnet pressure plate
modified throw out bearing

SHO's are hard on clutches, even a stock OEM replacement LuK kit is about 250 bucks my cost from a distributor(I paid that much just for my pressure plate!)..... When they first came out they had a smaller design with a different TOB and pressure plate, that was considered good if it lasted passed 10k miles!

I am a very aggressive driver, I've taken it to the strip a couple times and done about 10 passes one night without a complaint from the clutch. I will also not hesitate to bang out a couple fast gear changes in the daily driver mode.... That being said I am also well aware of what is going on when driving a manual so I try to be as easy as I can with it and try to step on the clutch pedal as little as needed..... I just laugh when you hear the younger rice burner kids downshifting into every gear when comming up to a light! after all I'm about 3rd generation transmission mechanic/general repair mechanic!

if my clutch setup lasted even a tenth of what you guys claim to have run on some cars, I would start playing the lottery and running away from lightning storms......

this is about the typical routine for my car every day.... I wonder how long the clutch will last! lol

Only 70,000mi on my 2005 F250 clutch. Clutch would not re-engage leaving me stranded on a busy stretch on a two way road. Either the previous owner rode the clutch a lot or it was due to carrying lots of cement bags with stop and go driving.

I had a 1997 F250 that is still on it's original clutch, but the clutch would get harder to press as it ages. I had a 1995 F250 that I bought used with a hard clutch and had to get it replaced.

197K miles on a '90 BMW 325is and still going strong (knock on wood). Before that, the only other manual transmission car I had was a '78 Chevette. It was still on its original clutch in 1989 (~100K miles) when it was in an accident and written off.

I went from a 92 Grand Am with a HO Quad 4 and Muncie built 5 speed to an 02 Cavalier with an Ecotec and an Getrag. The Getrag is an absolute piece of junk compared to the Muncie box.

I had a 95 Grand Am with a 5 speed, not sure what make of transmission it was, but the worst I have ever own, and the sloppy cable shifter was a POS as well

In 92 they used 2 different 5 speeds, one made in Muncie, and I think the other in Asia somewhere. I think the regular quad 4 got the rice and the HO one the Muncie box.
