How many actually follow the OLM on new Honda?

OLM's are annoying, unnecessary and distracting. Whoever invented that junk should be arrested.

No, it shows up at 15% to call the Honda dealer to get an appointment. The change time for oil is at 0%, it is written in the Owner Manual.
And yes, it is annoying when the 15% is passed as it will show up everytime you start the car, but as dtt004 said, it is to be sure you won't forget.

And remember that the MM is calibrated in factory for dino oil, so, as Pablo showed us in the past, doing double the MM with synthetic oil is easy peasy for a Honda engine.

My wife who is doing 100% city driving, is usually doing 5000 miles OCI with Dino (MM to O or slighty negative).
In our previous 06 Civic, I did an UOA using dino oil, and the result was impressive following the MM (quite some life in the oil).
For those who say the oil is depleted when the MM is at 0%, do you have UOAs to prove it? Because I have one who say the opposite.
 
We follow the MM on the Accord. I think the first OCI was somewhere around 7k miles. Right it has 4k miles and it's at 60%. I change it when it hits 10-15%.

F driving around for roughly 1,200 miles with the freakin maintenance light on.

90% of the comments i read on Honda forums, the members say the dealer suggests OCI's @ 15%

I've yet to hear someone say the dealer said to come back at 0%

People are scared to run it down to 0%
"oh no, there's no more life left in the oil, it says 0% oil life"

Which is the whole point isn't it? Honda wants you to come back and buy Another car in a few years. Its pointless for them to make the car last you 20 years.
 
I follow the MM on my 07 Civic with dino oil, and usually change it at 15% between 6000 and 6500 miles. Seems like it runs longer for a fair number of people but that varies between models obviously -- and I think AT vs MT makes a difference given the AT (at least on the Civic and Fit) is geared much taller than the MT. I also drive fairly hard, and up and down long hills every day.

I can't stand having to clear the wrench every time I start up the car after 15%.
 
wow olm have changed so much from 2006 to 2010. my 06 acura will read 5% before 5000 and thats with a mix of city and highway. it looks like many of you can go 8-10k and still be at 30-40%.

where is the consistency??? im sure my k24 is just as efficient as the new 4 and 6 bangers.....but doesnt seem so

Purely speculation but I assume improvements in the OLM calculations.
 
Government controlled regulations for OCIs in newer vehicles.

I'm sure improvements in the OLM plays SOME part in it but i say its purely the standards that cause the OCIs to go up higher and higher each year.

What are these standards?
 
I change the oil in my wife's 07 Pilot when the OLM reads 15% and when it comes out it looks pretty well used ... I use either PP 5W20 or M1 5W20 with a M1 filter ... usually between 6500 - 7000mi

Who do you believe? Honda engineers or Honda forum members?

Sometimes, when I am busy and the dealer is busy (changing tires to winter tires for example), it can take up to two weeks to get an appointment that suits me.
 
Well I think I'm going to change it this weekend. Also I think I'll just continue changing it at 30%. That will give me about 8,500 mile OCI.

On my 09 Odyssey, I change at 10-15%, which usually pops up at 5-6k miles due to my wife's in-town driving. My 09 Fit is run 99% highway and the OLM doesn't get to 15% until around 13k at least. I changed early the first time or two but after that, I just do what the light tells me to do. I also use whatever the heck I feel like clearing from my stash, oil wise. No, I don't think I know better. But having used this method in my 02 CR-V for at least the past 5 years with no adverse impact, why not? I think my last change in the Ody was some M1 0W20, some Pennzoil 10W40 HM, and some MMO. In hindsight, that sounds pretty wild when I put it to print, but...
