I believe one year, for example I just bought a new push mower,, last years model(got a discount), I consider it still new.

If it was sitting there two years, and all rusty, it should be discounted, and not sold at "new" prices.

With cars, and trucks, they have "blowout sales" to make the older models move, with mowers you usually can get AT LEAST $50 or more off the original dealer price, if it was last year's model.

The reason I asked is that I bought a Stihl HSE 70 Corded Hedge Trimmer on Saturday. I was tipped off that the picture on there website had an all black front handle and on mine the safety lever was orange. I questioned Stihl about that and told me they changed that to Orange. So orange would be the current one. However, they did tell me it was made in March of 2014. Right on 2 years ago. I will have to give they kept it looking new all that time. I know dealers won't sell below there price and also this is not a popular item, but I think that going that long seems to be that long. Shall I raise a fuse or just let it go?

From what I've seen for dealer sold outdoor power equipment, it's "new" until the day it's sold. I've seen 1-2yr/old equipment still new on the showroom floor.

I also recall my 2005 model year Cub 2544 riding mower having a 2004 Kohler Command V-twin in it. Trans could be a year older than the machine too.

Yup, warranty starts the date of purchase...at least in my state.

That would be a heckuvan addition for an electric trimmer!!!

My Stihl Dealer will if you pay Cash.....

By how much?

My Briggs & Stratton 5500W Storm Responder generator was made in 2010 and I purchased in 2012 from Lowe's, after Sandy. My 2 year warranty started the day I purchased it. It even came with 2 year old oil in the crankcase, Storm Responder models came with oil already in the crankcase. I broke it in for 2+ hours then changed the oil. It was in a warehouse where Lowe's, Home Depot and other business's were all picking up whatever generators they could find that morning.

Thanks everyone. I agree I will let it go, since I probably wouldn't get anywhere. Nothing got changed on that particular model. I saw on another forum where a guy was suspicions about the same thing about the orange lever back in 2013 and he thought he was getting an new old stock. So I was glad to see it wasn't made over 5 years ago, but but was a little disappointed on the 2 years. But I give a pass given the circumstance, that it was made in Germany and there is time for it to cross the Atlantic, not being a popular model, so it doesn't move that fast, it could of been sitting in a distributor warehouse for awhile before a dealer got it, plus how long the dealer had it before I came in and bought it.
However, I will boost about this. It was Made in Germany. I could of paid a $100 more for there cheapest gas hedge trimmer that was Made in China.

I bet there's a lot of parts in there that were sitting on the shelf longer than the motor was.

Check the door sticker on most vehicles, for example my 2008 truck was manufactured early in 07 and not shipped to a dealer till late 07.
