Is there any ceiling on these oil prices? I swear every time I have to buy oil when one of my vehicles requires an oil change, the price is higher than the last time. If they keep going like they are, soon we'll be paying as much for dino as we were paying a year ago for ful synthetic. Could big oil be getting a bit too big (and greedy) for their own britches?

bottgers, around here, the popular dinos such as pennzoil, qs, castrol, valvo, already are above the 2 dollar mark. exxon, hav, shell, and the like are a bit below, but are rapidly aproaching it. i mentioned several weeks ago, that it looks like i'll be switching to supertech 10w30 in the aerostar w/ 154,000mi. the wifes new hyundai gets pennzoil coventional. yeah, they are getting close the semi synth prices. the extended drains and the fact that the syn prices havn't seen to increase at the same rate the dino's have, is making them more attractive all the while too, as well as the pep boys, napa's, supertech advance autos dino offerings.

If everyone would do extended drains w/syn, or extend dino from 3k to 5k oci. We could hit the oil companies right in the wallet! maybe make them lower the prices.

Yeah, I can't believe in this day and age there are people who still actually believe in the 3K/3mo OCI crap. It's amazing how many people buy into the whole Jiffy Lube marketing garbage.

Around here somebody always has a sale on. Meijers has a weekly rotation of putting the major brands on sale. This week it's been Castrol, week before I think it was Pennzoil.Advance runs a lot of sales as does Pepboys. As long as WM keeps the 5 quart jugs of M1 around $20 I'm happy.I can do an oil change on my wife's van with it and a Wix or AC Delco filter for less than what a tankfull of gas costs.

AMSOIL has been saying/promoting this for over 30 years, and they get dumped on. Finally maybe some common sense will prevail.

GM is also promoting longer drain intervals. Thats got to tell you something.

With the events in the middle east and the volatiltiy of the oil market, including the refining capabiltiy stretched to the limit I don't think you'll see a ceiling in sight for quite some time. One major storm this hurricane season, one hit on an oil production facility, or one well placed threat can keep prices climbing.

Those numbers are offset by all of the other uses for oil. Think about it-the amount of oil used in engines, while large, is only a small fraction of the total crude oil used. If everyone in the United States who owned a car added 1000 miles to their OCI I'm not sure the oil companies would even notice. Even if they did it's a matter of pay me now or pay me later.

When it comes right down to it, oil is still a pretty good bargain. Even at $2.00/qt for conventional that's around $32.00/year for the average driver (4 quart capacity, 3K OCI, 4 times/year). That's less than a tank of gas in many places, less than dinner and a movie, probably less than a carton of cigarettes in many areas.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I use way more gas than I do oil. That's where I feel it, not in an oil change done every three-months or so...

In any case, stock up on sale or use rebates, and don't give the companies any excuse not to send you that check back...

And yes, Exxon-Mobil still managed a record smashing $36Billion profit last year despite, and because of, soaring crude prices... Oil'gopolies are nice...

I was in Wally World last night, and I was thinking to myself that oil prices were a bit lower than I thought. I did not see a single conventional dino over $2. Last I remembered, Maxlife was going up, and last night it was $2.14 I think.

Just do like the rest of us and stock up on oil when you see it on sale or a Closeout . You can still get many excellent oils for under $1 if you keep you eyes open.

base oil and additives continue to rise at 5% rates every few months and it will take I'd guess 3-6 months for the prices of today to get out to
the store shelves. So other than loss leader oils I would think riseing prices for out to a year from now at 10-20% increase.

Castrol GTX is $2.18 at my wally world. I've been stocking up on SuperTech. I'll spike it w/ LC or something if I have to. Theoretically, shouldn't Redline and Motul and the other primarily ester oils not be affected by the petroleum situation?

Can you imagine buying the cheap stuff and the cheap stuff being Redline?

Mobil 1 EP quarts are $6, save $.50c with the normal M1. If I was buying oil, rather than using stashed, I'd buy just Havoline, no synthetics.

The Chemical Valley here in Sarnia is under a major over haul.
There are shut downs going on for the next 4 to 5 years to do refits and over hauls.
They have to play catch up now.
