Black Bart you started this thread. I repeat my question What's yer point? Did you really think you would get a bunch of people to pull their air filters off because of this thread? I sked for a UOA of 5000 miles without the air filter installed on your buddys car. Heck I'd settle for a UOA from YOUR daily driver without the air filter installed for 5000 miles. Can you produce?
I know what my lawn mower oil looks like when the air filter had a lousy seal.
Black Bart do YOU use an air filter in your car? If you do then please tell me why

In 35 years he has put 284000 miles on it and it don't use oil and runs perfect.
So how important do you think an air filter really is

Car is driven about 1000 miles a year oil is changed once a year.

Yeah, something doesn't add up here. Unless that car has been around for 284 years. Perhaps there's a wormhole somewhere in Indiana?

Seriously, though- there aren't many 35 year old cars with 284k miles in the Rust Belt that are still in even marginally useable condition, let alone magazine-fare. Seems unlikely. IF that mileage, age, and condition are in fact true, then I suspect multiple rebuilds, repairs, and upgrades over the years.

I work on long-haul trucks and busses every day. I've seen LOTS of engines that were 'dusted' from just a small hole in the air piping coming from the air cleaner. It'll wear out the rings and cylinder walls in short order- and I don't know why a mopar 383 would be any different. Maybe he's very lucky and lives in an area with very little airborne dust... but I wouldn't do that to my vehicle.

Onion ,it is hard to fool a fleet / Heavy duty tech!!!
