On your dogs, of course.

I have two golden retrievers and a rat terrier. (All are full-grown.) The rat is male and one retriever is a male. Both males are constantly scratching, chewing, and kicking at fleas. The males each have seperate dog-houses.

The female retriever never gets a single flea. She sleeps on the ground. All three dogs share the same back yard.

I've tried collars, flea powder, once-a-month flea drops, dips, and now sevin dust. I've been dusting the males about every other day for a week now and it's starting to make a dent.

How do I kill all of the fleas once and for all.

Thanks!

My dogs sleep in bed with me and my wife (they are small) We use advantage drops on the dogs. and I use spectracide bug killer on the lawn(use the spread caster to apply) It is a very rare day that we ever see a flea. The drops work for us. If there are still flease in the yard they will still get bit however so you need to control all there contact areas.

Some dogs are actually allergic to flea bites and develop hot spots from a single bite. Try administering a little Childrens Benadryl if they are itching alot to help relive them of the itching. Talk to your vet about dosage for your particular dogs, but it works like a charm.

A natural (as opposed to processed) diet, and we rarely have issues.

When they do happen (every couple of years), a quick course of "Frontline" on the back of the neck.

I have used the water used to soak kidney beans in before.

Rinsing the dog.

Many of the dried beans have high quantities of alkaloids, that mess up the fleas.

(or so I've read)

It has been less than 10 years since the effective, modern materials came into use. Advantage, Frontline, Revolution, Bio spot, and even cheap over the counter stuff works with most dogs. With one healthy young dog in the house and poor flea habitat in general, I got away with doing little or nothing for many years. Got into a big mess in 02 when I took an unprotected dog to my sister's house with her flea infested cats. Once you have them, it is tough cleaning them out, treat the yard, dog, house, car, and anywhere else the dog spends any time.

A year and a half ago, 10 year Aster came back live with us. She had developed flea allergies before the modern good stuff was widely used. I didn't like the mess the creams made of a streak down her back. I talked things over with my vet, ahd went with Revolution. Expensive, but it left her coat nice, and we didn't see a sign of a flea all last summer. I have a package to start 1 May this year. 6 doses will carry us into the end of October. Winter is the best flea remedy of all.

A good check for fleas is to pull the hair back at the base of the tail. Whether or not you have seen any, if the dog has dark, reddish specks there you can see or feel, the dog has fleas.

We use Frontline on our Lab. Shes going on 10 and (knock on wood)I've never seen a flea on her.

We spend alot of time in tick country and have yet to find a tick either.

Seven dust ..everywhere ..diazinon around the house ..as well as dursban. Our cats usually reinvest the house ..so getting them under control is the hardest ..

I'm assuming you are kidding, at least I hope that you are. If you aren't kidding...you need to stop pouring used motor oil on your dogs.

Where are you buying Diazinon and Dursban?

I used those for years to control Crane Flies and other lawn pests. About three years ago all the stores in my area quit selling them, they said it was to be taken off the market.

That's what I was told too, even by a licensed pest control guy. Diazanon was great stuff.

Might consider neem oil. It might cost some but it's very safe. It's non-toxic.

They make a Dog shampoo with neem oil.

i use a little whip and a tiny chair.

A friend told me about doing just that to cure a dog of mange. This was when he was a missionary in Egypt and didn't access to anything better.

I used to use Sevin dust on the dogs, borax on the carpet and Malathion spray in the yard.It was a constant battle in summer living here on what is basically a sand dune.

Program is one of those new generation of products that has been out several years now. It fixed the probem for good. You give the dog a pill and when the feas bite and drink the blood, the eggs they lay do not hatch. Cycle broken, problem solved.

Well, I found Program on the internet. Almost $70 for 12 tablets.

I also found some info on the net on natural flea control.

So far I have dipped the dogs in dish detergent. The article I read said to use Dawn but I used Wal-mart's Dawn knock-off. It killed the fleas faster than any pesticide I have ever used. They're dead on first contact. Amazing!

Also, I dosed them with minced garlic and yeast. I hid it in some canned dog food and they lapped it right up. The garlic was pretty strong too. These are both supposed to repel fleas.

I installed cedar bedding from the local hardware store in the doghouses. Apparently, fleas hate cedar.

I'll post back with how the garlic, yeast, and cedar do. $70 for 12 pills is way too much to pay if this natural stuff works.
