From the latest edition of "This is True":

Quote:
He Also Observed That School Officials Are Obliviots: Jason Steward of Kermit, Texas, took his family to see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. A few days later, his 9-year-old son, Aiden, took a “Hobbit” ring to Kermit Elementary School. Aiden told another boy of the ring’s magical powers — if he put it on the other boy’s head, he’d disappear! That’s not harmless fantasy, school officials declared: Aiden was suspended from fourth grade for making a “terrorist threat.” It was Aiden’s third suspension in six months. The first was because he observed a fellow student’s skin is black. The second was because he brought his favorite book to school to impress his teacher — but the Big Book of Knowledge includes a section on pregnancy, including a photo of a pregnant woman. Principal Roxanne Greer refused to comment on any of it, saying “All student stuff is confidential.” Steward said Aiden “lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.” (RC/Odessa American, New York Daily News)

SERIOUSLY????

It's a comment on "those who can, DO, and those who can't TEACH". THose who can't even TEACH become administrators after perfecting their brown nose skills.

If this is an example of how the "Principal" expresses herself, why is there any surprise that taking "The Big Book of Knowledge" to school would lead to suspension?

This may be less about political correctness and more about the stupidity of those who run the school.

I'd "suspend" my kid permanently from that school and enroll him in a better school ASAP.

I have always thought that school administrators in general take themselves far too seriously.

I'm also reminded of the time on the TV show "The Office" where Dwight gets put in charge of some small responsibility and of course takes it very, very seriously. Jim says, "Sad. This is the smallest amount of power I've ever seen go to someone's head."

Kermit is a tiny West Texas town about an hour away from Odessa (aka: Slow-Death-uh)

They really have nothing better to do.

Now that's funny.

+1, great quote!

Idiot people are everywhere.

Oddly, the parents didn't yank him out of that dungeon after the first two incidents. They're idiots too.

You missed something, I'm sure of it...

Wasn't there one a while ago where a little kid took the school supplied (plastic) knife and fork from the cafeteria, and got suspended under a zero tolerance policy, then the school backed down when the parents threatened to sue for providing the knife to a minor in the first place ?

(I like those sorts of table turn cases).

Zero tolerance is code for people who can't think rationally

No.

My mother did that, and I still have nightmares about it to this day.

Yep, heard that discussed on the radio. Absolutely pathetic. That such idiots have elevated to the level of Principal reveals a wide-scale problem. After all, they're entrusted with children....OUR children.

Her wheels have come off and her lug nuts are rattling around because she's clueless! Further, her inspection sticker has (long) expired. She ought to be put out to pasture to rust with the rest of her fellow "admin".

Perhaps phone calls en masse would apply sufficient pressure?

Go on?

The only solution is to not expose your kids to this garbage. No way I'll tolerate .gov workers belittling and bullying my kid. YMMV.

HA!

Suspended three times in 6 months? More than likely junior is a little turd and the parents point of view (as conveyed in the original post) is that poor little junior is such a good little boy and can't do no wrong. Or at least that's how I read it...

Parents have a habit of diminishing things when it comes to their children. They say that little junior just took a plastic knife from the cafeteria when what actually happened is that little junior took the knife and then began stabbing other kids in the classroom with it.

This was always tough in dealing with the removal of a child from the home in the foster care system. The parent spouts out lies and mistruths which the media could cover and I had to respond, "No comment" due to the legal process. Then people think we are a bunch of heartless jerks who steal kids for no reasons because I can't say, "How about those failed drug tests and arrests for domestic violence?" At least I hope that is the case here.
