Hounds: What about the media of the AO1? Does it have better media.higher efficiency than the AO2 or others? I've never seen a spec and the educated guess are that its the same "rock-catcher" media as the A02 was tested to have. If you have better info??? That tidbit doesn't come up on my googles.
Jim, most respectfully, this ^ caught me off guard. Perhaps I should have said "components" rather than simply "media" in my shorthand comments above? In any case, I, and I assume you, have seen so many comparisons of Honda's (Filtech) A01 filter and Honda's (Fram/Rank Group) A02 over the years, often with pics and a host of analyses, that someone's now saying the A01 is "better" than the A02 seems -- to me at least -- almost tautological. In this regard, if you google, for example, "compare Honda's A01 and A02 filters" it will bring up any number of comparisons, including several on this board if memory serves, going back for several years. In the face years of this, it's hard (for me at least) to conclude that the A02 is "as good as" the A01, particularly when Honda envisions either filter remaining in place through two oil-change intervals. Additionally -- and while I appreciate this is not dispositive of the issue -- it is a fact that several years ago the largest online retailer of Honda oil filters (H&A) made a deliberate (and well advertised) decision to stop selling the A02 filter to its customers. They still make a point of that online. (They also feature a lovely cutaway
of the A01 on their webpage.) And there are, of course, better choices still.
