Searched and didn't see anything posted on this. I got a letter from Honda yesterday stating they are extending the warranty on my engine block for 8 years unlimited miles due to the engine block losing coolant and result in over heating. The only fix for the problem is replacing the engine. I have an 07 and this just makes me smile.

Smiling about a defective engine. Well, it may just be me (and it usually is) but I would not be happy about it warranty or not.

How 'bout having it both ways -- I'd be none too happy about this, but would be pleased that Honda is standing behind the engine.

Of course if it's a slow coolant loss issue, an occasional peek under the hood should keep owners out of trouble. The hood opens for a reason. . .

From what i've heard the casting of the engine was bad, there's no warning, nothing you can do to prevent it. It happens very quickly and you will walk out to your car with a puddle of coolant under the car. If mine goes i hope it goes out before 8 years.

Find out where it cracks and hit the hot engine block with a C02 extinguisher so you don't get stuck with it out of warranty.

Wow,Googling brought up 90 complaints on one website alone.
Quite a few got refused because out warranty including a single mother with no money.

Hope they are now covered,I wouldn't buy a Honda. My neighbor even had a Honda outboard with a bad casting.Luckily replaced under warranty once they figured out it was a flaw and not abuse.

Many people have already paid for a new engine. This has been going on for at least two years, only now have they acknowledged it in the face of a looming class action lawsuit.

Will Honda willingly reimburse those that paid in full or part for a new engine back in 2008 or 2009?

Yes, they even put an application for reimbursement to send to honda and they will pay whatever amount you were out. Good to see them trying to take care of it, but a real disappointment.

I would be curious to see what the actual numbers of cars this has happened to. Is this going to be a common problem like the GM 3.4 intake gaskets? Or a more hit or miss?

And would you ever feel safe driving long distance if you didn't have a problem yet?

That is very cool.....Good for Honda.

I've seen a lot of posts online from people that are out cash from back in 08 and 09, good to see they wont fall through the cracks.

Wow, American Honda is heading downhill fast for quality. Nice to see them belatedly stand behind their products. I hope this serves as a wake-up call for them to start improving quality, beginning in design and ending with quality control every step of the way.

So far we have transmissions blowing up from poor design, now engines blowing up as they puke their coolant. Sounds like GM with their intake manifold gasket issues. Except you can't save the engine.

At least Honda is helping the first owners afflicted with this. I wonder how long that's going to last after their dealers start screaming when they've eaten a few of these.

Always seems to be some people who go ballistic over this or much of anything. I think it shows the company's integrity when they step up and offer to fix a problem.

That's how I feel about it. I've been hearing about this problem for a long time now and I'm glad they're officially extending warranty coverage for it. I wish there were statistics available -- there are a ton of 8th gen Civics on the road now.

It does irritate me given Honda is supposed to be a great engineering company -- that's one reason I bought my Civic over some of its competition. A cracked block due to manufacturing flaws seems ridiculous to me these days.

When they're forced to. I have to take the Honda to the dealer tomorrow for a bunch of issues, some nuisance, some that affect drivability. Not looking forward to the experience, as they already "can't find" the TSB's that have been out for a year for two drivability issues. It's not only that dealer, it's every dealer in the area who refuses to admit the TSB's, and the problems they address, exist! Stories like this only reinforce why I'm not a fan of Honda.

My experience w/Honda USA has been bad, and the products far from perfect.

Anxiety and disappointment were the two themes from my 06-07 Honda experiences.

What bothers me is that it's not like a handfull of bad blocks got out the first year, but three solid years and part of another year. I know it's good that they are offering the 8 year warranty, but makes me dread after that 8 years is up.
