Only 2005 and 2006 have the serviceable element per the pic you linked. 2007+ have an element, but you cannot get at it from outside the trans like you can on the 2005-06.

Ooops. You're absolutely right, and I stand corrected. The pic I posted above is for the 2007 up. Below is the pic for 2005/06. The filter is on the accessible side of the transmission in 2005/2006. 2007+ looks like on on an inaccessible side of the transmission.

In fact, I now remember that the 05/06 was a three shaft transmission and the 07 up uses the four shaft transmission from the Ridgeline.

Yep, the most drastic change in the Ody 5spd auto came in 2007. It's different from guts to case. It's too early to tell if there will be a huge longevity improvement over the

That's interesting. The manual recommends changing the ATF every 10k on a '03 Odyssey ? Does anyone know what the interval is on a newer('05,'07+) Odyssey ?

and where did you get the ATF Z1 for $3/qt ??

Per Honda for 2005+, the only interval is to follow the maintenance minder. It will flash a code when it thinks it needs an ATF change. I'd still do 2-3 dump/fill cycles every 30-50Kmi.

The manual says "if you don't do 3 drain/fills every 30k miles, then at least do 1 drain/fill every 10k miles." So I will do one at every 7500mile OCI. A little overkill, yes but I like knowing the transmission has clean fluid based on all the problems their known for and lack of being able to replace a filter.

I bought the ATF-Z from a friend who used to work for Honda and stocked up multiple cases.

While I think the triple drain and refill is a great idea, for the record, I want to establish that Honda only recommends the triple drain and refill if the system has been contaminated. The factory service manual only describes a single drain and refill when the fluid is replaced as part of the maintenance schedule.

On a '03, unless the transmission has been replaced before, the fill plug would've been replaced with a hollow fill plug and an oil jet assembly. Here's a picture of the oil assembly from an Acura CL-S, yours should look exactly the same:

If you remove the bolt that you see in the picture (I think it's a 10mm), you can gently twist and remove the oil jet. This will make refilling much easier.

So THAT'S how they did the jet. I've always wondered. I thought they drilled into the case and put in a jet somewhere. Makes much more sense doing it this way.

YES PLEASE!

And it better be good because I just spent a lot of time downloading the 2003 Odyssey owner's manual and nowhere I see any mention of 10k atf change intervals. Even the Severe service schedule lists 30k intervals, just like most other Honda cars.

Please do post the picture as I am sure many people are anxiously waiting to verify this information.

You are right. Manual does not say 10K. Does say AT fluid change, every 30K severe service. 45K first regular service , 75K, 105K for second and third regular service. 10K? Tried that, still failed early, 70K. Very weak transmission.

Frequent fluid changes will not save these transmissions. Poor design, not poor fluid. The clutch linings will get chewed up causing it to slip and/or the torque converter will fail internally causing a shudder at around 30mph.

04 and up generally have a lot fewer problems than previous. 03 was an in between year, some fail some don't. 00-02 are the worst years.

okay I will take a pic of it when I get the van back from the dealer which is in service for a faulty speedometer. I am posititve it says to do drain and fill 3 times every service, but not 100% on the 10k intervals. I may have read that on the 'Alldata' We'll see. Thx for your input peoples!

AcuraTech

Are you a Acura dealer tech? If so, anything we can do to prolong these transmissions? I am not an additive guy, but I was advised by 2 reppitable mechanics that LubeGard Protectant is a great product! Any ideas?

I hope you're right about the years. Over on Acurazine, I see more and more of the 04s failing and some 05s too. When the 06s get up there in mileage, it should be interesting.

is this the Acura TL?

Can anyone tell me anything about my '07 Accord 2.4 trans? Where is the filter on that? I really like the way it functions, for shure. Currently doing AMSoil ATF 1x a year.

It's #4 here. A black steel inline filter. Real easy:
