I hope this is the right spot to post this. We just finished building a home in a gated community, but you know as well as I do that things happen everywhere.
We are slowly moving small stuff initially from current to new home, what this means is that the new house is essentially a weekend home for the next few months.
I would like to have a couple of cameras that will activate upon sensing motion and allow me to monitor via internet or my mobile phone that has internet service. I assume that there is some sort of storage device included that the cameras can record to as well?
I don't know anything about this sort of thing, any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Just advice post you topic on one of the home security forums and reinforce all of your exterior door jambs. Good luck.

If you have access to Time Warner Cable, Intelligent home sounds like what you are looking for actually. You can have cameras that are remotely accessible via the internet and smartphone app, you can control the thermostat, window/door sensors, smoke detectors, motion detectors, and so on.

Thanks, I did also start looking up info on Home Security sites, my head is spinning!
Good suggestions about TW and Comcast, I need to look into who will be our provider at the new place.
Not so much need for setting thermostats and window/door detection, my intent was to have motion activated cameras at front porch, rear porch, and front covered parking area.

Yup you can get those. You get a cool touchscreen controller thing, everything is wireless (no wires installed in your walls or holes drilled) with Intelligent Home. And it's competetively priced compared to the competition. Of course, you have to have access to TWC services in your area, and you have to have a miminum of Roadrunner Lite to sign up for it.

I did have a dumb question too.

I see some systems that list features including:
* Remote Access: Internet Explorer or Netviewer Software
* Support Remote View via Smart Phone & 3G Mobile

Obviously the first one needs an internet connection, but does the second one also need an internet connection or does that mean it can call my phone direct?

It means you have to have internet access on your cell phone. IE you have 3G or faster where you are.

Anything wired is likely less secure than a wireless option. Can you get a wireless security system?
