History repeating itself?

This, and it's been going on for decades.

It is history repeating itself. 10w-30 SN/GF-5, for instance, is, by definition, a resource conserving grade.

If an oil is good for severe service, then it is also good for regular duty.
Using a thinner oil just to get a minor mpg gain is not what I want to do.
For me engine protection is more important than fuel economy.

Conspiracy theorists! Get off yon soapbox. It’s not a conspiracy when it’s out in the open. If you don’t like it, go vote.

Well, several of the guys I spoke with, who work on cars for a living would say it is an experiment. But hey, what do they know? BITOG KNOWS ALL.

I’ve heard they keep changing the rules though....

Things to worry about are the HOT lanes on 405 and 167 or the thousands of unmarked white vans and trucks that are everywhere, everyday, or that RV that has been parked on your street for some time with people living in it.

Simple, what does it tell you that they can't get adequate timing chain wear protection to get the field to pass gf-6? They didn't have this issue until they went thinner for fuel mileage. Much of the good paper out there is prior to gf-4 so I wont bother posting it, but most of that paper suggests the best balance between flow and protection is 35 weight or sonewhere between 30 weight and 40 weight research march to thinner oils of you want to read it. But my 2 vehicles call for 20 weight, and neither will get twenty weight. My wife's car was a rattle trap on 20 weight, soon as I put 5w30 PUP that 4 banger toyo was butter smooth.

There's not really any point in keeping 1970s fuel economy standards unchanged forty years later, though.
