Just previously I posted a question on where to get Delo grease at 3/5% heavy duty EP (I've never used the stuff).

What I probably should have said is there a better grease for $5.00 (per tube) or less with a high percentage of Moly?

I want a very sticky grease that will not just squeeze itself out of suspension/steering and king pins and be gone!

I am not interested in it's interaction with bearings at this point as that is another post for later!

Really interested in everyone's answers, so please articulate to your hearts content!

While there is no moly in it (its calcium based),Mopar Multi Mileage Lube is a long strand grease. Its very stringy and recommended for extended grease intervals. Its been around since the 1970s.

The following three 5% moly greases were discussed recently in this thread : https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2594078#Post2594078

Amsoil Polymeric Offroad - 220

Schaeffers 238 - 226.7

CAT Desert Gold - 370-425

They have different thickeners compared to the Delo lithium complex. I have no experience with any of them. CAT might be available locally and they also make another 5% version.

If you only want 3% moly, you can find that in lots of brands locally.

Amsoil polymeric offroad grease is very tacky and resist being squeezed out.

I'm using it with good results

Thanks Trav for the reply, the Schaeffer grease you specified looks somewhat like what I'm looking for.
I emailed them earlier today in fact about what I wanted, however if the price is going to be $8.00 per tube I won't be getting it. In my opinion that is totally ridiculous for a tube of grease. People keep paying these crazy prices without even stopping to think, what they are doing. Not me.

Thanks again.

I understand your point but there is another side to that coin.
I use this grease in automotive suspension joints and on the Kabota tractors numerous grease fittings. It last a long time in these applications even on the bucket pins.
Other greases that cost only slightly less needed to be greased far more frequently in end effect costing more then the #238.

I look at the cost of the grease but also have to factor my time to do the work. This is very inexpensive grease for its moly content and performance, most cost almost 30% more.

Schaeffers 238 is an outstanding grease. I use it all the time. A little truly goes a long way, it is hard to wash off and lasts a long time in service.

My favorite application for this stuff is clutch pivots...

Hi Trav, thanks for the comeback.

I understand that it's good grease, it's the price($8.00), (plus shipping) that sticks in my gut!

When you say it lasts a long time, what does that mean?

I would be greasing king pins, PTO's, steering, etc.

How long would it last between regressing, some logical educated figures would be respected based on the usage time.

Weather bombed me out!!

My main concerns besides it's protection qualities are it's other attributes!

1. I definitely don't want something that separates in the gun and especially in storage.
The grease will be kept in an uncontrolled temperature building. Temperatures will vary between 0 deg and 120 degrees plus in the summer. Can this (238) withstand that kind of temperature change and remain stable over long storage times in it's tubes?

2. It absolutely MUST stay in place, I am totally fed up with those greases that wash out or get squeezed out in a short matter of time!
Sorry to be so demanding but I have become fed up with a LOT of what some call grease!

What happened to everyone, did I say something wrong, this doesn't look good for the questions I asked!

Well anyway, can someone tell me if this Schaeffer #238 is stable in storage? Meaning, will it leak out the tubes/gun?

How long is it stable relative to the above?

I was greasing the bucket and arms ever 20 hours or so with a major brand grease, now with the 238 it can go 50+ hours and the pins still have a good amount of grease on them.
In ball joints and suspension points i go 15K or once a year with the 238 in cars and light trucks.

It does not weep out of the gun.

Trav that is some great information, thanks. I received an email from Glen at Schaeffer's and will probably go with the #238, haven't totally made up my mind yet but it does look like the grease I have been looking for.

I need to know things like how will it store in an unheated barn (Shelf Life) without separating/leaking/degrading. That lets me know how much to buy at a time and how to store, Not really worried about winter but summer temperatures in Maryland can jump up to 120 plus or so degrees in the barn.

A very hard lesson for me was to find about 6 tubes of cheap grease all over my brand new barn floor (T&G plywood), won't hurt it, just made for a really bad day, hope you understand.

Those figures you gave me on the way it has extended your "Grease" time is quite impressive especially in tough situations/conditions.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me.

I just recently picked up some shaeffers 221 from a local rep. I must be lucky cause he sold me the tube(s) for $4.25, said the 238 (which he said was over kill for automobile use iho) was only a $1 more. For that price it was a no brainer and top dog in it's price range to what I have locally. Just waiting on my grease gun to arrive to start pumping.

I understand that. I had a red puddle under one of the guns a couple of summers ago from a major brand and was more than a little PO about it.
I think you will very satisfied.

In very dirty, unsealed lube applications (excavator/backhoe/bucket pins, etc.), I always wonder if long lube intervals is counter intuitive. Would it not be better to purge and push out all that dirt more often?
