if you read the actual bottle it says part syn also i wish it was full syn id jump on that im pretty sure they have a faq page where they explaine it to be part synthetic

As I'm near ready to change my ATF....I'm wondering if Valvoline MaxLife is a full synthetic...or as the OP states....50% synthetic. Any further clarification would be appreciated.

I'm considering using Mobil 1's ATF, which is a full synthetic.....and priced locally at $6.49 a quart.

I've got a gallon jug and a few quarts of it on the shelf in my basement. All with 2011 date codes best I can tell. None say anything about the synthetic content. Only something along the lines of "synthetic base stocks".

I know there's been other threads on this over the years. I don't recall if we determined it was a blend or a full synthetic. Regardless, it's one of the best off the shelf ATFs you can get.

I just had a full change out my ATF system Fluid flush with Mobil 1 full synthetic, Front and Rear Diffs and Transfer case to Mobil 1 Full synthetic gear oil this past summer....along with the PS flush which also takes the Mobil 1 ATF.

No problems to report....just smooth driving.

I plan on just opening the ATF drain plug in the pan and draining the fluid every 30K miles from here on out. I'll replace it with fresh Mobil 1 ATF, from my stash, with the same quantity drained.

The rear Diff I will continue to drain at 30K and next time replace it with Mobil 1 synthetic 75w-140, from my stash, since this will get the most abuse.

I accumulated a nice stash of the Mobil 1, Full Synthetic ATF and Mobil 1, Full synthetic Gear Oils in 75w-90 and 75w-140.

When the on line discount codes worked at Advance Auto for Transmission Fluids, I stocked up by adding a couple/three quarts at a time to the orders which brought the price per quart of the ATF down to the $5 to $6 range.

The same for the Mobil 1, Full Synthetic Gear Oils, but they have not discontinued the use of the on-line, store pick up for the Gear Oils.....yet.

their website says right on description base oils which is convential not synthetic.

They say "blended from synthetic base stocks" or somesuch on the bottle. Synthetic enough for me. It works very well in our Honda.

This is from the previous posted PDF:

The Valvoline MaxLife™ ATF Advantages:
• Synthetic fluid
• Conditions transmission seals to prevent leaks
• Reduces varnish formation and wear
• Improves and maintains smooth shifting longer than conventional automatic transmission fluids
• Provides excellent flow properties at low temperatures and greater film protection at high temperatures
• Maximizes the life of higher mileage transmissions

its a base conventoinal oil with an add pack like a synthetic trust me i wish it was synthetic id be all over it.

Overall, Maxlife ATF is a poor man's Amsoil ATL. The specs are similar. It's also claimed to meet Dex-VI specifications. All we know about Dex-VI is that it is at least a semi-syn basestock. To meet/exceed that, it appears to be at least semi-syn, if not a low-grade full syn ATF.

I agree.

Valvoline stands behind all of its products, including MaxLife ATF. Use of MaxLife ATF in transmissions where recommended by Valvoline WILL NOT void the vehicle’s warranty. Vehicle manufacturers are restricted by federal law from including the requirement of the use of a specific brand or trade name of product or service as a condition of their warranty. The following is an extract from the Federal Trade Commission’s web site on interpretation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act:
"Tie-In Sales" Provisions Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions.
In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have
scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.
Valvoline has conducted extensive testing and has a long history of successful use of MaxLife ATF in a broad range of applications. In the unlikely event that you or your customer experiences any transmission damage while using MaxLife ATF in a Valvoline recommended application, please contact Valvoline at 1-800-Team-VAL for assistance.
While MaxLife ATF is designed to meet the special needs of higher mileage transmissions, new transmissions can also benefit from its enhanced oxidation protection, shear stability, seal compatibility, wear protection and anti-shudder protection. Many consumers have chosen to take advantage of this level of performance in newer transmissions.
Valvoline does not recommend MaxLife ATF for use in most continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) unless specifically noted nor in automatic transmissions where Ford Type F fluids are recommended.
