knock down
Yup... looks like knockdown.
No experience matching that, sorry.
The existing texture seems to be a mix of knockdown and orange peel. I bought the orange peel version because I was told that you can flatten it more (if-needed).

Build up the area a bit with the joint compound, once dry apply it and texture it with a broad knife, and/or a sea sponge, by stippling it, then while still wet "knocking" it down with a trowel or broad knife. Fool around with it while the joint compound is wet until you get the texture you like.
If all else fails, I'll try that. Thanks.

But assuming that the colors ultimately do match, not just look like a big dark orangish spot, I'd leave it.
If this were an interior room, I'd want perfection. Since it's a garage, and it's only standing out because you highlighted it, I'd let it all dry and see what you get. My suspicion is that from 10 feet you won't see it.
I'd put a hook up there with a dustpan, broom, or some other utilitarian thing that you might want to get out of your garage and call it a day. Others will be worth the effort, this one won't be, IMO.
Sna a pic from 10 and 20 feet and lets see it..
I think I am going to lightly sand the perimeter of where that box is, paint, and re-evaluate. It may just be fine, we will see. Here is a picture from earlier this morning.
