My 2003 3.3l Chrysler used a Mopar xxxx oil filter and I always used a larger filter like the Pure PL 14670. I just got a used 2008 3.3l Dodge and it calls for a Mopar 4105409, which is what they used to use on the 4cyl engines. The Pure would be PL 10241. What can I use in place of the PL 10241 oil filter that would be larger?

Sorry about that. My "new" vehicle is a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan. There is plenty of room for a larger filter.

looking back through an old post where i asked a similar question, the puro 10241, is the size my neon takes, which in fram is a 3614
the oversized fram would be a 3600,which in Purolator is a... 20195.

It's a 3/4X16 thread. You could use many as long as the gasket seals and the bypass psi is right. My Ranger could use the same filter as your van. And I use a filter that is the same size as a Wix 51773. Mine calls for a FL1-A which could also work for you. The 4670 you talked about can work too. Btw, the The CAT filter I use is a 1.5 quart. Try the Baldwin website and punch in some filter numbers. It gives specs and you can compare them to Purolator.

Jim

Unless something changed in 2009 the 3.3L Caravan accepts any number of oversize filters as it always has.

First up would be the Motorcraft FL-1A with the thread end bypass. Purolator Classsic L30001 works as well but no thread end bypass.

You can cross reference these part #'s to the brand of your choice.

The Motorcraft FL-400s is one heck of a filter and will work fine in that application. It is somewhat longer than the teacup sized 10241 and has a ton of media crammed in it, something like 63 pleats. Thread end bypass and silicone ADBV too all for 4 bucks.

The above mentioned FL-1A equivalents would also work but are huge in comparison, make sure you have room.

So I suppose it would offend you if I told you my lawn mower used the same filter as your van?

(FL-910s is the MC equivalent to the PL10241)

I'd go with the FL-400S. That's what the 3.8 in the Jeep uses, and I also use it in the Saturn since there's plenty of room for it.

People on this site crack me up.

In one thread they will quote mfgr specs chapter and verse, then they fit a non spec oil filter!

This place kills me sometimes...

Ha ha at least some of us are consistent. I use non-spec filters, run blends and use grades that are optional or not recommended, and dump MoS2 in it to boot!

Sometimes MMO too hah hah.

Some of us just think we know better than Chrysler-er, Daimler, er, Chrysler LLC, er, Fiat, er-whoever owns them this week!?!

Heh, no worries here. I am a huge believer in everybody getting to do their own thing.

Just please post up the results so we can benefit from the experience!

I used a FL1-A on my 2003 voyager van, but the can diameter is larger than the 4670 (even though the thread size is the same) so I can't see how the FL1-A would seal on the 2009 Dodge van. Is the engine sealing plaate the same on both?

Sorry for the Super long post, but here is the competetor Cross-reference for the Fram 3600(the over sized version of the 3614)should give you all the part #'s you could ever want

Same situation here, My Neon, and Dad's Cub Cadet Rider(w/ Kohler motor)use the same Filter.
mind if i ask what OCI you run on the Mower? dad's came with conflicting manuals. the Kohler engine manual says 100hrs, the Cub manual says 50hrs. and when i changed the oil @57 hrs, the FF, w/ Kohler Filter, looked practically new, well as much as you can tell by looking.
replaced w/ QSAD 10w30, and Wix 51348

Assuming the oil filter mount is the same as before (and I would be amazed if it wasn't), it will work fine. I have used an oversized filter on all Chrysler engines I have wrenched on (most have called for a PH16/FL-400 since the early 70's), it works, no problem. A few vehicles cannot, simply due to packaging.

Well, I just bought this mower this spring when the wife and I bought our first house. I bought it used off of Craigslist and didn't get any manuals with it, My plan is to just change it once every spring before I mow the lawn for the first time. Can't imagine I put much more than 50 hours a year on it anyway. (no hour meter)
