What is the best why to adjust engine speed on a Honda GC160? I know on a standard Briggs and Stratton you can just tighten up the governor spring. Is this how it is done on the Honda too? Mine engine is running at around 2900-3000 rpm. I’d like to set it closer to 3200. Thanks.

I would have to think that you want to do this to get smoother operation. To get the max horespower. I want to suggest that you adjust it to the speed of peak torque. Remember horespower sells the engine. And torque gets the job done. I had a book with the torque and horsepower curves of these engines. And if my memory serves me correct max torque is around 2,500 rpms. And the torque plomits after that and quickly.

My Honda 5.5 GC 160 on a pressure washer does not have a adjustment for engine speed. It automatically adjusts under load. maybe yours is different

I used a zip tie to part of the carburetor so that when full throttle is engaged it keeps slightly more tension on the spring. It looks silly, but it works great (adjustable) and my mower clearly works better at the higher rpms.

Why a zip tie? It is fast, easy, and great for the lazy person.
