Hello everyone. I have a Stihl FS56 trimmer. It was bought new last year and is 10 months old. It was bought with their Motomix feul and that is all that has been used in it. The unit was stored with no fuel in the tank and it was run out of fuel before storage. Today I put fresh Motomix in it and it fired up first pull. It was used for about ten min of work. While under load with my finger on the trigger and cutting away....it just stopped running. When I tried to restart it I could not pull the starter rope at all. I took the spark plug out and still could not pull the rope. I pulled off the cover and starter rope unit and it works just fine....BUT I could not turn the engine where the starter rope connects. Did I blow up the engine in my trimmer? How can I test for problems without voiding the warranty? Buying the Motomix doubled the warranty when I bought the unit. If I did blow up the engine, will it be fixed under warranty? Thanks for the help.

I will do just that. I have moved since I bought the trimmer. It will be a 50 mile round trip but yeah I will take it back where I bought it.

Take it in, Don't mess with, My Stihl dealer would fix it "No questions asked".

When using Motomix, You don't have to drain them...At least I don't. I just shake the machine a little to mix up the fuel, Never an issue.

I'm a little leery of their "Homeowner" product line, This doesn't help my reservations much.

Call whoever you bought it from and ask if they have a place that could repair your machine closer. And don't touch it

that's what your warranty is for. Let us know how it works out.

You can take it to ANY Stihl dealer , No need to go 50 miles to where you purchased it

Alright, I used a dealer locator and I found an Elite dealer only ten miles from our home compared with twenty-five miles away. The trimmer was taken in and they said they will call me within two days. It seems that the warranty should cover this but we will see. I will let you know what was found.

Here is the update on the trimmer. I took it to the local shop. They kept the unit for a day. What happened to the unit was my fault yet I do not know how it happened. There was a small pebble that was stuck between the flywheel and the ignition module. Thus the engine could not turn. They fixed it for free and all is well again. The shop said that this would have not been a warranty repair and would have charged me $65 per hour to fix it. However because we were first time customers they did not charge us anything. Now I know. I still wonder how in the world I got a pebble caught in the unit.
