The Owner Manual is as follows:

above 77 F (25C) SAE Viscosity 30w / 10W-30 / 10W-40

32 F to 77 F (0C to 25C) SAE Viscosity 20w / 10W-30 / 10W-40

below 32 F (0C) SAE Viscosity 10w / 10W-30 / 10W-40

I use the tractor spring/summer/fall with outside temperature range from 40F to 100F. I am not real comfortable using 10W-30 as is allowed in the manual and would like to use the 10W-40 if I can find it. Would like to use 15w40 but that is not shown as a recommended oil. I am surprised that they do not allow a 15w40 for temperatures above 32F. Thus that is why I am looking for a easy to locate 10W-40 CI/CJ4 oil.

Thanks Slick

I would use 15w40 and not worry... but I also respect when one wants to follow the owners manual.

Rotella T6 5w-40 (or other 5w-40 HDEO) would be a top notch year round choice. little more pricey, but with a small(er) sump not as big of a deal.

The only place I have seen 10w-40 HDEO is at tractor supply, which was Rotella T5 10w-40.

Texan4Life and all

I did find Rotella T5 10W-40 API CJ-4 "Silver Gallon Container" at Tractor Supply Company as you suggested. They had 2 gallons on the shelf so that is what the crankcase has in it now.

On another subject. Interesting your Texan4Life Poster Name. I have more than a few relatives who were from the northern Midwest states and moved to Texas and are Texan's for life now. It is nice state with a lot to offer.

Thanks

Slick

Glad you were able to find the T5 (which is a synthetic blend). It has a good rep from those on BITOG.

as for the nickname. I almost moved out of state for a job offer, but ended up declining. It popped into my head and I thought it had a good ring to it
