Never thought to try Havoline before I joined the board. It has worked very well in my 98 Integra GSR with 105,000 miles. I did my second Auto RX treatment and went with Havoline DINO for the rinse after reading so many good reviews on the site.

The oil has worked great for me during the last 3k with a Napa gold filter. One of the cheapest oils at $1.42 (local Wal Mart).

My DOHC 1.8l VTEC motor seems to like this stuff. Very quiet, starts easily, runs great. Previous oil changes had included GTX and Mobil Clean 5000. I was thinking of switching to Max Life Syn after the rinse but I might try a couple of more 3k changes with the Havoline! If I continue I will prbably switch to 5w30 in the winter Great stuff and I like the price! ohh and I like the smell as well

Thanks BITOG!

It's funny- havoline dino would probably be higher on the list of prefered oils here than penzoil dino. Nice to know there are very cost effective oils available that are actually excellent performers.

As i'm sure you are aware- the reason BITOG gives havoline it's praise- is that is it a very high moly oil. Neat stuff. I've been meaning to give havoline a wirl in my engine.

Here I come!

Three dollar rebate. Just not worth the hassle. I would buy the oil immediately if it were really 12.96/case straight price. I decided not to give them the satisfaction this time.

Kanling, I understand your frustration with the rebates. It is a hassle.

Here's what I do that makes it all worthwhile:

Whenever I buy something with a rebate, I take the time to fill it out and send in. When it finally gets here (usually a couple months later) I cash the rebate check and hide the money away. Every Christmas I take the rebate money and buy myself something nice, like a couple of 5 gallon jugs of Mobil 1.

Individually, rebates aren't all that great. But combine all of the rebates available to you over the course of a year - now you're on to something.

I have heard Havoline and Chevron are virtually the same oil. Does Chevron have high moly as well because I think I can find it cheaper than Havoline. I am talking about 5W20 BTW. Also, are these blends, like the Motorcraft 5W20 or straight dino?

I got Havoline Dino in my wife's 98 Honda Civic and since she does most of her driving on the highway......I leave it in for 8000 miles, no problem.

"Also, are these blends, like the Motorcraft 5W20 or straight dino?"

Straight dino, martyi, though maybe some percentage of Group II+. The last UOA I had done on Chevron Supreme (10W-30, "SL") showed 60 ppm molybdenum left after 3,000 miles. Dunno whether the molybdenum concentration is different with the current "SM" formulas. I've since bought seven cases of TropArtic 10w30 "SM" Synthetic Blend.

Like OCB, I tried Havoline based on its praise on this board and I was really impressed. Made my engine noticeably quieter and smoother than the pennzoil I used before.. so now I pay less for oil while still giving my engine the best

OCB, has it done anything to the oil consumption with your B18? Have you kept track of your compression numbers thru the Auto-RX process?

Veloci..... I have not kept track of my compression numbers during the process. I did my first RX treatment at about 90K. Then I when I noticed ARX was having a promotion and I could get a couple of bucks off I decided what the heck. My car is over 100K and I'll give it another go.

This car has seen a mix of strict 3K changes with DINO. And some 5K changes with semi syns though its lfe.

It was very clean to begin with but I decided to go nuts with the ARX.

This car usually goes through about 3/4 of a quart every 3K. With the Havoline I'm at exactly 3K right now and I'm only down about 1/4 of a quart. I can not tell if this is the auto rx working or the oil. My best guess is it is a little of both but I really think the oil performs great in this b series. Runs smooth as silk. Start up is great and VTEC screams

Thanks OCB, trying to draw fom your experience here. I am done just with 2x ARX. Now with 126+k miles, still seing 1qt/2k mile consumption. Pretty rev happy on my D16Y8 (SOHC). A bit of smoke above 6k rpm to the 7.2k redline. About halfways with my AMSOIL experiment, no improvement. Next will be Maxlife Syn, then Havoline Dino. Wish me luck. That Moly must be doing something for ya.

I'm sure pretty much any SL/SM oil will do great for you, Havoline is a great oil no doubt but any new oil is sufficient for regular intervals.

Veloci, Why not try the Havoline next and then go to the Max Life Syn. I think I will try the ML Syn down the road as well. But for $1.42 vs $4 + for the ML. Why not try the cheaper stuff first and see what happens with the pil consumption? Good Luck

Buick, I agree any SL/SM would be fine. I'm just saying in my case this Havoline seems to run the best in my car. Most recent comparisions would be to GTX and Mobil Clean 5000. I prefer the Havoline.

If dollar tree gives up on oil ,Chevron/Havoline is by far the best deal you can get as Groucho said they have great add packs and base stocks.Advance Auto seems to have it on sale every other month. If you go to the uoa section on this site Havoline gives better protection than Mobil 1 , all others things being equal.

OK, will do. BTW, just to confirm, you are using SM GF-4 10w30, correct? There are still some SL in the jugs floating around.
