Has Wix quality gone downhill?

Recently replaced the old Wix air filter in my Jeep with a new Wix and was shocked at how much the quality has gone down. The older Wix filter had a plastic frame and a silicon gasket while the new one is just a piece of filter material with no frame or gasket of any kind. The new one relies on the filter material being crushed by the filter housing to seal. Has Wix quality gone down across the board or just for my application?

I must add that the Wix filter I just replaced was at least 5 years old probably closer to 10 years old as it’s pretty wet around here hence dust free and air filter tend to last a long time. Also I don’t drive this car that much.

Picture? Maybe poor QC I can't see an air filter having no seal unless there's one designed into the airbox lid. I remember my last WIX made filter having a black separate rubber seal around the filters edge not one with the media.

Old style Wix air filter on bottom new style on top. Fortunately i was able to find an old style Wix NOS locally as the OEM Jeep filter is a POS that’s about halfway between the old style Wix and the new style Wix in quality. The OE filter does at least have a seal but it’s the floppy style without a frame. The best part is Wix didn’t even change the part number when the redesigned the filter to be much cheaper to make! Not sure what I am going to do next time I need to replace my air filter as there aren’t many options left now that First brands is bankrupt. All the remaining air filters on the market for this car are garbage. Probably go back to the OEM one even though it’s inferior to the old style Wix.
