I would not use the word switch. It has encourged me to try new products even non-synthetic oils. It has also made me more aware of the need to test each time you make a change to get solid data. Prior to this board I would never have considered tring Chevron Supreme, Auto-Rx, 0W30 Castrol and other additves. I also would not have bothered to run a Toyota OEM oil filter. I would have just stuck with Baldwin!

Well......I haven't switched oils as of yet. But I have decided to do some UOA's and then decide what is best for my engines. I didn't even know what a UOA was until I found this site.

I feel better about ST filters now, but still am not ready to dump Pennzoil 5w30 dino for whatever is on sale cheap this month. It there was something much cheaper than Pennzoil that I thought I could find it again for the next oil change, I might switch. I don't thing the synthetics are worth it for my short trips and change the oil every 3 months whether it needs it or not.

I also feel better about using the 5W in place of the 10W now. I am much more concerned about cold engine oil flow now.

Before I discovered this web site, I had been using Valvoline motor oil, although I have tried several brands in my lifetime. After I discovered this web site, I switched to Chevron Supreme.

I also discovered products like the German Castrol, Auto-RX, Schaeffer's, Neutra, Fuel Power and Lube Control at this web site. Most if not all of these products probably never would have been known to me without this web site.

I have now tried several products and like several other people who come to this web site, I have tried several motor oils trying to find the perfect oil. I think that the oils I have discovered here (Chevron Supreme as a conventional, Schaeffer's as a blend, and the German Castrol as a synthetic) come closer to that perfect oil I have been looking for as compared to the oils that I have tried in the past.

I have to say that this web site has changed my life.

Without this website, I'd never have switched to BobZoil (Schaeffer), not would I have ever heard of Neutra, Auto-RX, Lube Control, or Fuel Power. So yes, I've been influenced by the information here.

Yes and No.
No only because I have been using Chevron Supreme due to the fact Chevron Synth appears on Mercedes's list of approved oils and it is a name brand oil for $1. Mostly it was for topping, mowers and other peoples cars. I also spotted and recommended Rotella T synth for turbo Audis, I stand by that now after reading at BITOG.
Yes I have changed my personal oil though, from SynPower 5w-*40* to NuSyntec. I have used M1 0w-40 in my 2002 Audi, no love lost. Because it was just laying around Tri-syn 5w30 was used in my current car for it's 30k change when I bought it used, a 1998 V6 Audi. Made the switch to SynPower because my Bosch mechanic does not like M1 and I saw him use SynPower.
So, I did have sources for oil info other than BITOG, but nothing concrete. Now it is easy:NuSyntec in everything. 60k V6 Audi and 165k I5 Audi and Mom's 100k V6 Audi.

Mercedes-approved synths: (I put them in order based on my readings) 1)Kendall GT-1 FullSynth 5W-40 2)Chevron Supreme Synthetic 5W-40 3)Valvoline Synpower 5W-40 4)Havoline Synthetic 5W-40 5)Pennzoil Synthetic Euro 5W-40 6)Mobil 1 0W-40 and 15W-50 7)Quaker State Synthetic Euro 5W-40 8)Castrol Syntec 10W-40 and 5W-50

I never would have thought about using an aluminum complex grease in our farm equipment or that it really even mattered, the #221 is hard to beat. Also use the Schaeffer's #700 15W40 in the tractors now.

I found this site maybe 3 weeks ago & always used Castrol { sometimes a little Mobil 1 mixed in } but after reading a few hundred posts & learning how the less expensive dino's are as good if not better then some pricier ones, I switched.
Today I bought Citgo @ .69 a qt after rebate for a case purchase.

This website has tought me not to extend drains to 25k miles or even 10k+ miles without oil analysis. I have also found that useing a quality dino oil and changing it every 3-5k is sufficient.

Yes for one car. I was using royal purple 10w30 and 7500 mile oil changes. I am now using Mobil 1 10w30 and 5000 mile changes. Other cars using 20w-50 Castrol and has seemed good enough so far.
Using auto-rx and would never had tried without this web site.

Oh no, not a bit. Hey, doesn't everybody have 37 quarts of Schaeffer's #703 in their garage? And everyone knows the stock numbers from an obscure oil company out of St. Louis, don't they?

Yea, and, at lunch, I went to AutoZone and was thrilled to find 4 quarts of German Castrol. And I loved asking the clerk if she had more 0W30 back there. "Well, there's 10 or 12 quarts right here sir." Uh..., there not German mam, you see right here .... She did let me look through 2 pallets of new oil in the stockroom. (I left before the cops arrived).

Oh, yes, I'm planning my life around trying to get by some AutoZone stores because I need 3 more quarts of German Castrol so I can try this stuff. Yes honey, I know that free maintenance is included with our new cars, but you see, as I've tried to explain it a hundred times before, this here new fangled oil is sooo much better. Here, just look at this UOA I just printed this morning.

And, yea, I did order 12 Mann filters last week. See, they're a bit better the the Hengst filters the dealer stocks.

Oh, yes, I let go of 18 UltraGuards from my shrine. Watched on the UPS tracking as they went from Greenville to Birmingham to Jackson to Mesquite as they safely made their way to another BITOG member.

Oh, and I met another BITOG member and his wife in a motel parking lot one evening to sell 4 cases of #703. Y'all know what I'm talking about, don't you?

Oh, you ask about the night I returned 53 quarts of Mobil 1, SJ to Wal*Mart. Hey, you see mam, I thought the new SL version was "dummed down", but it turns out that it's OK. Bob, you know Bob don't you, must have gotten a bad batch of Mobil 1 as they were going from SJ to SL, and from Tri-Syn to SuperSyn. Did you know they produced some SL rated Super Syn mam? Rare, that's for sure. Those were turbulent times, weren't they? Oh, thanks for the refund. As I get to my car, I think I heard the sirens.

Nooooooooo, my life and my oil is the same.

I switched from Valvoline Maxlife and Fram filters to Exxon superflo and supertech filters.

I'm keeping the same 3k interval but no 3 month rule. It took me 6 months to get 3k miles last oil change (only drive 7-8k a year)

what can I say? I'm a sucker for advertising. this site helped me save money!

Yep. I switched all of my cars to M1 0w-40. Two were running M1 10w30, one 15w-50. It also reinforced my thoughts on running factory filters and staying away from fram filters. Finally, it reinforced my belief that 5000 mile oil changes on synthetics were fine and I could push it further without trouble.

No more Frams. I have one that is coming off on the next oil change. It's been on there since mid May (only about 1,200 miles). I'll be going with a SuperTech on the next change if I can find one, if not it will be a NAPA Gold.

It hasn't caused me to change oil brands (yet).

But it DID help clear up the "sludge" myths about Pennzoil and confirm my dino choice was a good one.

Okay, well NO. Probably won't but It did help me find a bunch of people that think sorta like I do.
I know one guy who changes his oil after the third time he has the dealer scold him, and he drives a new Benz. he plans on throwing them away after 5 years or less and doesn't bother because if it breaks, he'll just get a new one.
I know another that has never changed his oil, and met a few more like that, I just don't get it.

What it has done was confirm a few things I thought were true by experience, but was just a guess.

What I don't think people get is that it almost doesn't matter what oil you use as long as it is changed before it gets dirty, and you flush once and awhile, the engine will probably last longer than the parts to the car.
