Has anyone actually seen QSUD with "Dexos" label?

Nope. Haven't seen the dexos logo on the bottle, nor have I seen it mentioned on the back anywhere. To add to that, the website doesn't mention dexos either.

I know it is on the approved list, but the above seems a little suspect.

....

I vaguely recall seeing the dexos spec on the website a couple months back, but you are correct it's no longer there. Seems like I remember reading a thread where it was removed from the Pennzoil website as well. As long as it's on the list from GM I guess that's all that matters. It does look like the SOPUS marketing department would spread the knowledge though. Lots of oil shoppers now and in the future will be looking for "dexos oil," and they'll be looking for something on the bottle. Even Castrol and Valvoline, which aren't approved, at least acknowledge the spec on the back of their bottles

That is exactly why I asked. If SOPUS is paying the licensing fees, you would think they'd be advertising it everywhere - website, bottle, etc. I'm starting to wonder if it is REALLY approved, or maybe they never went through with it and GM just never updated the list?

I've been watching the list since I bought a 2011 Silverado. Since January of this year the list has grown. As a matter of fact they just added Pennzoil and Quaker State Synthetic blends (I haven't been able to find either of these) So I believe the list as posted by GM is up to date and accurate, but I have no idea why, as you said, SOPUS does not seem to market its dexos approvals.

GM dexos oil list grows

Maybe it's as simple as SOPUS has a warehouse full of labels to get rid of first. Or, their tech guys are as quick at updating the label text as they are at updating the product data sheets on the website.

It's anyone's guess how long it takes a label change to work it's way through the pipe line to the store shelves.
Given the volume of oil Wal-mart sells, it would seem most likely that the new label, assuming there is one, would show up there first.

My 2¢

I decided to pose this question to Shell/Quaker State:

I am the owner of a 2011 GM product that calls for dexos oil. I see that Quaker State Ultimate Durability is listed on the GM site as meeting this spec, but I do not see this information on
the Quaker State website. In fact, does Ultimate Durability 5w30 meet the spec and will this be indicated on the bottles?

And their reply via email on 10/10/11:

Dear Sir,

All of our DEXOS approved products will indicate "DEXOS" on the containers.

Regards,

Shell Technical
