so my 93 f150 has been hard to start sometimes. it'll crank for 8 seconds and the last time it as wanting to start till i hit the gas pedal and then it came to life. once it starts it runs like a champ....problem is when i got to diagnose it it'll run fine. so what can i check ect. the tune up stuff is all new runs smooth its just when starting sometimes. its a 302 v8 thsnks for any help you can provide.

Coolant temperature sensor may cause this. Do you know if its the original?
Also
Have you tried to turn the key on and off a few times before you try and start it? Maybe its fuel related.

It's only once in awhile. Turning the key on off didn't help. I am not getting rid of it its a1200 dollar truck its g going to need little stuff. If I stay under 1800 bucks and its reliable I consider that pretty good. It runs great its just been little stuff. All I've done is a fuel pump and tune up that's nothing. Motor and transmission are solid. I hate when people want to just dump old cars because they need little stuff its 19yrs old what do you expect? LOL some people

I have seen the pick up coil in the distributor cause that on Ford trucks. They start off hard to start then after a while will not start. It could be leaking fuel injectors flooding the engine. Intermittents can be hard to chase down especially if the condition only last 10 seconds.

The distributor is brand new just replaced before I got it. So I hope it ain't bad already . Maybe some fuel cleaner would be an easy place to start? And filter? Idk

Most likely Fuel Pump

Have you put a gauge on it ?

Check pressure after it has been warmed up (engine not running) and after it has been sitting for awhile. God chance the pressure is bleeding down making the initial start harder

have your mechanic fix it? hes a mechanic right?

He will be able to diagnose it and fix it better than the armchair mechanics trying to help you with only the vaguest of general information on the problem and no troubleshooting done.
Esp when you already know some items are bad.

Try replacing all the known bad parts first would be a good start.

that's the strange part its only doing it when it warmed up. like today i drove it 15 miles home then my wife came in so 5 mins later we left because she said she saw a tool box for sale. when i started it, it took about 5 seconds. then drove 5 mins to the yard sale. it sat for 15 mins and then had trouble starting. its not when its stone cold.

It is the big thing on the front of the distributor with a harness plugged into it. It tells the injectors and plugs to fire.

Is it remote mounted on a heatsink under the hood somewhere?

My truck still had it on the distributor, but it was older.

EDIT:

Here's a pic of the distributor mounted version:

The last one I looked at (a 1995 model) had the module mounted on the driver's side fender.
