Merkava 4, did you have another forum name before?

flatlandtacoma thinks so; and he may have hired the Department of Homeland Security to have me investigated.

posty and bennyg19, its a 98 crv with the b20b motor and 97000 miles on the odometre. for its entire life i have ran thocker oils. nothing thiner than than a 15w40 or an occasional 5w30 10w30 5w20 quart mixed in with the 15w40 if i had some laying around.

to be honest i had a leftover quart of supertech 10w30 that i put into this current mix of 12,000 mile oil. ohhh i forgot about that. maybe i should change this oil afterall.

I don't remember Blackstone taking that long to mail a sample kit. Seems like it been good turnaround time. I do remember for sure that they have good turnaround on getting you the results once they receive the sample.

It showed up today.

Requested on the 2nd, shipped on the 5th, arrived on the 22nd.

You can take a UOA sample thru the dipstick tube - just get some aquirium tubing at walmart. The UOA labs are cool with this method. This would cost you a little, but it would tell you how your engines doing overall, and it would tell you if your present 12k method is a good one, and then it would tell you whether to push the next four months. That's a lot of info for $22.50.

If you're spending $22.50 plus $3.00 for aquarium tubing, why not just CHANGE THE OIL?

I really find this fascination with UOAs amusing. People spend cash on analysis instead of performing an oil change. Please don't tell me a good UOA would allow an extended OCI next time as NONE OF YOU would go that far a second time without spending another $22.50 on a second UOA.

Sometimes, the "logic" on this site is disturbing.

We ran 7500 OCI w/ dino in our 99 crv. When we sold it, I put in syntec 10/30. Wished we'd run syn before... It was sooooo smooooth with that oil versus the normal gtx diet.

M-Acid... if you haven't already, CHECK VALVE GAPS NOW!!!! That engine will often stretch the exh valves, closing the gap, which keeps them open longer and therefore hotter, until they burn up, cause detonation, and otherwise result in a pricey bill. It's a great motor, kind of a mini-stroker as far as honda motors go.

Me personally, I'd run a syn for 10k no worries, but IMO 15-40 is a bit thick (but suitable since it uses flat tappets against the cams). If you like the rotella, consider the 5-40 syn.

Perhaps people who jump onto the UOA thing as a fad fit into that category, but there are plenty of folks on here who use UOAs to check to confirm an interval is appropriate then go from there.

Folks get a UOA to see if:
1. They are running the proper viscosity.
2. Running the optimum brand/add packs
3. Running the proper OCI's.
4. Fuel/Silicon are acceptable levels.
5. Early warning system for something going south in the motor you can fix cheaper if caught early enough versus your engine blowing up.
Just a few reasons off the top off my head why folks spend $20 bucks......silly people should just run whatever and never give a rats booty huh?

After reading this I say dump it!...

I've found headgasket leaks in an 03 sentra before any apparent problem with UOAs. Plus, it shows who is making junk engines and which to avoid.

id like to not turn this into a uoa contraversy thread, but for what its worth i dont normally ever get uoa done. i did it one time in my life, (just one single time) and that was because i overheated a motor and kept seeing bubbles in the coolant. i thought i had blown a headgasket so i got a uoa on it. it came back negative. by the way i didnt get the dyson package.
im not one of those people who run their expensive oil out to 5000 miles and then get a uoa and dump the oil before the uoa even comes back. no, if i get a uoa this oil is going to sit in the sump untill i get the results. and then only get changed if you guys decide i should.

I felt safe giving you the go ahead to keep on running the Rotella...when I read you have a quart of SuperTech conventional in there I no longer feel safe!...Nothing against SuperTech but I feel this oil was never intended to go this far even though some probably do...Rotella on the other hand has seen quite a few extended drains in heavy equipment...but if you are gonna do a UOA and keep running it until the results get back I for one will be anxious to see those results...
