Congratulations on doing the obvious.
Aren't you glad that you didn't waste money on a spark plug change, or any of the other things that flew threw your mind during the past week?

Next time you have a CEL, stop clearing it, and pay attention to it.

BC.

Glad you got 'er figured out. Looks like an enjoyable car.

Ever peek at that TB/Confirm if it has ever been changed?

Time for a Video Recap!

Before CTS:

1. http://s1051.photobucket.com/albums/s434...zps1b8f1ddb.mp4 Bladecutter mentioned by name

2. Driving, pre-Monday (with guesses as to why it was doing what it was. Was parked at Sam's after this, with the now infamous, captioned Volvo vs Volvo photo) http://s1051.photobucket.com/albums/s434...zpscd8615b8.mp4

*Click on links to open in new window.

After CTS: (First drive)...

1. NO MORE DRIVEABILITY ISSUE, NOR CEL/MIL LIGHT!! AND I ADDED IN REDLINE SI-1!!! http://s1051.photobucket.com/albums/s434...zpseb2a749d.mp4

2. I SAW A LAMBORGHINI!! FROM THE VOLVO!!! RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!! http://s1051.photobucket.com/albums/s434...zpsa94d4bd4.mp4

Hey, just wondering.. How long is the CTEK unit supposed to stay on? It is still Orange and I put it on about 12 hours ago. (CTEK 3300. This is the first time it is on there.)

In some of the white block engines (like mine), the CTS is part of the thermostat housing...not sure about GHT's car, but I suspect it's the same...and part of why it's so expensive...

Can I use this for when I change out the coolant?

*yes, I bought it already. Yes, I kept the receipt. $15 and change.

**And yes, it may go in before, or at the same time as, Water Pump/T-belt change. ANYTHING to get that present coolant out...

The LAST thing you need is RB!! That's part of your problem: Going off in multiple directions at once.

Back away from RB kid.

Congrats on diagnosing before you prescribe. See? It works.

Also interested in confirmation that you said the coolant was brown, if it still in this condition or if you can flush it out and refill or will have that done. Brown as in rusty brown? as even old, really bad, rusty coolant can cause the conditions you are having.

Yeah =, the coolant is still brown. Brown as in.. old.

Let me snap a pic of its color and level. (By the way.. Sam forgot to top off the coolant after changing the CTS. So, there was the flicker of a coolant light.. thus prompting me to take notice, WALK TO AUTOZONE as it is the only thing I can do, and get the best-suited antifreeze. next up: Ramps and wrenches and stuff.)

And you will see why I want to put in 50% the pic above, and 50% distilled water?

I'd have just added a bit of distiller water rather than mixing who knows what into the unknown slop in your AF system.

Then id flush it properly with the right stuff during or after I did the timing belt.

I agree with just adding water till it is replaced with timing belt. Or at the least do a quick drain and refill to start cleaning that junk out.

I do agree. I also am considering taking it elsewhere for that T-belt job. The dealer quoted me $617 for the T-belt.. true, it probably includes "nothing else" and I wonder what it would be afterward... But, truth be told, if nothing else acts up on the car (the thermostat housing appears to be leaking slightly, should I have that re-done somewhere else too?) - then the T-belt will be just about the next thing I post about, with this Volvo-specific thread.

If you were me/she, would you take it to the dealer? Or, would it end up costing over $1000?

If it hasn't been mentioned already, I think most of us would recommend finding a Volvo-specific shop to do that type of work. Hey, perhaps there are some Volvo forums which might be able to recommend some shops in your area?

Or has this already been suggested already?
