Great article indeed. It would be even better if it could address novel types of esters such as ones in G-oil.

G-Oil does not claim to use esters. They describe their base oils as "made with plants or animal fat" and claim to have a patent application covering "conversion of saturated fats from plant or animal origins into high value unsaturated oil like materials"

Their MSDS only lists a synthetic polyol ester.

The original esters were made with vegetable oils, acid and heat/pressure. There are several methods of producing them.John--Las Vegas.

Yes, one of the methods is nature, as esters are ubiquitous in nature (and smell nice).
