I have an AEG BSB 18CBL hammer drill which has a removable chuck.

The chuck has these small balls that you can see in the first attached photo and it fits on that axle which has these small sockets for them.

The axle was covered with a bit of grease which has accidentally got removed.

What type of grease should I use in order to regrease it?

Others will know better, but that is a niche application so I would reach out to the manufacturer. Short of that or if time is a problem, I would try something with a very high molybdenum content such as the old Honda Moly 60 or similar. That is magic on highly loaded splines and similar.

I had a look in its manual. There is no any mention about grease. As I'm currently on vacation on a relatively remote place, I will have a chance to buy grease tomorrow, because I'm planning to visit a nearby city, so yes my time is a bit limited.

What I can say to help is that the grease seemed thin.

Hilti hammer drills come with a tube of grease for their chucks, it's white and not that thick maybe a #0 or #01 weight and doesn't seem to collect too much crud. Never had a bit stick in the chuck anyway and I think those use a ball bearing retention system similar to your chuck.

AEG's grease was thin too, but it was black.
