Somewhere there's a mullet-headed pylon bragging to his buddies about the pencil neck geek in a poser BMW that he sprayed with rocks when he punched his oil burning welfare Firebird, and they're having a good laugh over it.

BTW, what is "poser" about my BMW? It's a real M5, not some re-badged 530i.

That's like saying he peppered some "poser" in a Cobra... when the guy was driving a real Cobra.

Yeah, that may be, but how's he to know? Heck, before I came to the board, I had no clue what an M3 was. doodfood brought that to me via his sig... I had no clue what an M5 was till you posted about them... I knew a little about BMW's line up, but nothing of their specialty cars. You very well could have been a poser to him, poser or not...

It still sucks that your new baby got peppered like that, it is definitely a real **** move on his part, no doubt about it and I'd be madder than a nest of hornets too!!!

This whole deal kinda reminds me of the two Canadian yocals that were harassing a guy and his wife in their little German sports car while video taping and ended up on the wrong end of a gun on some dead end back road...

Hey that's fine Eric, I don't expect everybody to know the details of ever manufacturer's car line-up and I'm sure you are right, the guy had no clue what the car was. He was just being a ****.

However, Pop Rivit's remark seemed like a personal dig at me because of how I described the guy and his car.

I couple weeks ago I got nailed in the shin with a (full) beer can while riding my bike. You got off easy! There's no cure for stupid, unfortunately.

Dunno? Guess only he can say...

Now you know how I feel when EVERY leased appliance Camry/Avalon/Accord/300 series Lexus sedan & SUV owner/passenger/kids (that's ALL there is around here) THROWS their doors open onto my car's body when parked, with NO regard for other people's property.

Just because their car is a TOTALLY disposable appliance that they can afford to change every 2-3 years, and that they could care less about, they think it is NO BIG DEAL, and NO ONE should be upset by their actions.

And then they have the audacity to think that it's strange, and amusing when I park as FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE from their Nippon refrigerators in order to avoid their thoughtless/selfish abuse.

You have every right to be angry, but the commentary of your posessions versus his is a bit petty. It's sure easy to do though when such a stupid behavior is done.

The car was used and had some chips already. Its bound to happen with age anyway. Stinks it happened prematurely of course, but the lower valence is probably the easiest thing to repaint and blend and nobody ever be able to notice.

Put plastic bra on the lower valence?

You seem to be misinterpreting what happened.

We were almost stopped, as the speed limit where we were driving was 50Km/h, and the vehicle in front of him, as well as the vehicle in front of it, were turning. He intentionally pulled over, into the gravel, then stuffed the throttle to pelt me with rocks.

This had nothing to do with "following close". I was a safe distance back.

My comment petty? Perhaps. But he saw a nice car and decided to pelt it with gravel because he is a douche bag. So please forgive my "petty commentary" but if some guy driving a rusted out piece of [censored] intentionally rear ended you in parking lot because he doesn't care about his vehicle and got off on hurting your stuff, how would you have reacted? What would you have said?

I brought up the value thing because quite frankly it is accurate. A set of OEM fog lights for an M5 are worth more than the car he was driving.

Again, just to clarify, this was INTENTIONAL. He pulled into the gravel and FLOORED IT.

I don't think anyone would intentionally do that. You seem self-conceited as if your driving the best car ever made or most expensive. Cause, well guess what your not. Quite frankly it's not even close...

Now...that i've said that I can say this... I would though be just as [censored] as you are and done something highly illegal. So, I commend you for keeping your cool in that situation. Cause I know if someone did that when I'm driving my IS-F, I would have gave them a piece of my mind.

I'm thinking there's more to this story and OVERKILL somehow [censored] the guy off, whether knowingly, or intentionally. It's happened to me more than once where I did "something" to aggravate another driver and I had no clue what the problem was. Although there are some people who have this weird anti-Beemer sentiment.

I think he is implying that you are a poser for buying an 11 year old BMW and pretending to be affluent.... he is not implying that your M5 is fake.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

How is he "pretending to be affluent"? OVERKILL seems to me to be the antithesis of someone even wanting to be "affluent", let alone pretending to be.

So anyone who buys an older BMW and is proud of his car is pretending to be affluent?

Drew,

Hopefully Pop_Rivit will chime in and explain his poser comment.

But the folks I see traveling up and down the Palm Beach Intracoastal Waterway in their $10 million yachts is what I consider affluent.

That would be an odd sentiment coming from a guy who is always preaching about only buying a car with cash and avoiding debt when possible.

The E39 was and is my favourite body style M5. It has been since 1999 when they came out. I was in a position to buy one, so I did.

I'm not "pretending" to be anything. This car is, and will be driven like it is intended to be driven. And It has THREE KID SEATS IN THE BACK. It sees a whole lot of family duty! Yes, I wash and wax it. I drove around wearing a John Deere shirt and blue jeans in it today with my wife and kids in it. I'm not pretending to be jack. I have much better things to spend money on rather than saddle myself with debt trying to pretend I can afford a $100,000 car. I bought a car that I can ENJOY DRIVING, take to Mosport when I want to, and have some FUN WITH. Isn't that what being a car enthusiast is all about?

That's why I owned the Mustang. What was I pretending to be with a hopped up Fox that I drag raced?

What's wrong with buying a more capable car with four doors that can do double duty?

And yeah, I care for my possessions. I don't think there is a guy on this board that doesn't.

hypervish: That was the most disrespectful comment I think I've ever had made to me on this board in my tenure here.

It's a TEN year old BMW that I paid a small fraction of what it would have cost new. It is a car I've always had a passion for, and yes, I do treasure it. But I don't think or pretend to think it is a Veyron, Enzo or some other "ultra elite" car. It's a freakin' SEDAN.

But yeah, it's a 400HP sedan that I respect, and I enjoy driving it! What the [censored] is wrong with that?

I would be having the same reaction if this had been the Expedition. But the outcome likely would have been a bit different.

And if you don't think anybody would do that.... You haven't met some of the guys I've met. You must live a (relatively?) sheltered life.

A guy I know was looking at a Fiero at KFC. He owned one, and had a "thing" for them. The owner came out and this guy remarked "nice car". The owner told him to get away from it. So later, buddy went out with a box cutter and chopped the logo out of the urethane front clip. I don't mean removed it from the clip, he cut a huge chunk out of the urethane with the logo on it. And that is just one small example. I went to school with a couple clowns that threw a bag of marbles off an overpass onto random cars.

A couple University students threw a shipping pallet in front of my buddy when he was driving through town.

There are a lot of really MEAN people out there that will do things just for the [censored] of it. They don't need a motive, they just get off on making other people angry. And its not like you have to worry about somebody pulling a gun on you up here.

I'm not sure what I've said to you for you to judge me the way you have, but I would like you to perhaps reconsider your evaluation.

Yes, I'm sure they put around in their Maybach's, sip fine wine and have servants, maids and all that jazz as well. I know some people like that. And no, that's not me. Heck, up until I bought the Expedition, I was driving around in a hopped up '89 Town Car rolling on 17x9 Cobra R's. Does that scream "trying to be affluent" to you? I didn't think so
grin.gif

I come from a family with an engineering background and I love cars. I'm also part German. I like German cars! And you all know I love my Ford's.

This happens to be my favourite German car, they are getting up there in age now and are affordable. Being mechanically inclined, popping the hood to work on it doesn't bother me, so I bought one.

OVERK1LL,

Don't get mad at me, I know you are not "pretending" to be anything. I think you and JHZR2 misinterpreted what he meant when he said poser (thats why you mention re-badge 530i) and having a real M5. He doesn't mean a BMW is a low performance car.

I don't care less if you make $100 or $10000000000000 a year.

I'm not mad at you. You simply made a suggestion as to What Pop Rivit might have meant. Nothing wrong with that. I'm more upset (not mad) as to the remark that was made by hypervish, which I thought was a bit of a slap in the face.

I bought a car that I've always wanted, but waited until it was affordable. I'm very happy about the purchase, as the car is somewhat rare. Some random dude decides to be a **** and fire rocks at me......

And then he comes in here and kicks me in the nuts.

Any "car guy" should easily be able to see where I'm coming from in this thread. It isn't the M5. It's the disrespect by a motorist, who obviously isn't an enthusiast. Enthusiast don't do stuff like that. [censored], if this had been my wife's Focus, this thread would still have happened.
