Dear Members,

Currently I finished the 2nd application of Auto-RX on my 1998 Toyota Camry which is at 57,000 miles. I wants to change my Engine, Auto Transmission and Power Steering fluids from regular to Fully Synthetic.

I wants to know which one is good. I am providing couple of brand names which I know.

1) Amsoil
2) Mobil 1
3) Castrol
4) Shell
5) Pennzoil

If I didn't mention the brand which you guys know, please post.I need your valuable feedback.

Thank You in Advance,

Chand

I'd add the excellent Esso XD-3 synthetic oils (0w-30 & 0w-40) to your list for consideration. They seem to provide excellent bang-for-the-buck based on everything I've read here on BITOG.

^I'm with him.

That, and it's cheap! A jug of the 0W40 XD-3 can be had at Walmart for just under 22 bucks. Or, if you're willing to buy in bulk, the 0w30 XD-3 can be had even cheaper.

...Yes, my last purchase of the XD-3 0w30 - a case of 4 jugs - worked out to be $3.90 per litre. It will be hard to beat that price. I use Mobil 1 ATF in my auto transmissions.

Esso 0w30 XD-3 is not sold at WalMart in our neck of the woods, or do you mean from an Esso bulk oil facility? However, I once saw a single jug of 0w-40 XD-3 on the shelf but not 0w-30, why I don't know.

Yeah, the 0W30 isn't available at the Walmart in town either. I meant to say when you buy in bulk and an Esso distributor you can save a fair bit of money doing it that way.

After your ARX use GC 0/30 made in Germany .If you haven't changed anything in your automatic trans. go ahead and have the pan cleaned and filter changed and add Amsoil universal ATF. I use Synpower Power steering fluid. Another good idea is run the auto Trans and Power steering for a while with some ARX this should provide a good cleaning. The only other thing is your cooling system I change it every 2 years keeps the rust at bay.

Your going to get many different answers but it seems that moble 1 and amsoil are common oils people use. I use amsoil 5w30 now and soon ill be switching over to 10w30 amsoil. I drive a 2002 Tacoma V6.

Are they real synthetics or Group3 oils ?

It's 100% group 4 PAO. I been using XD3 0w30 for over a year now with excellent results. For $4/L it's hard to beat. Not even sale prices on 4.4L jugs of M1 at Walmart can touch that.

I was surprised to find Esso 0w30 XD-3 Synthetic on the shelf at Home Hardware in Halibureton yesterday.

Very interesting, I'll keep an eye out for that in my local HH.

Go to your local Esso distributr and get the XD-3 0w30 synthetic.

Super cheap and much better than Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

Make sure that you use Dexron ATF in the power steering not regular Power Steering Fluid.

LubeOiler: Have you used Valvoline SynPower PS Fluid in a Toyota PS system? Is it OK?....I know that the bottle says not to use in Honda PS systems. Hondas use only Honda PS Fluid and Toyotas use Dexron ATF conventional or synthetic.

Chand:

I am 700 miles into an AutoRX clean phase and am switching to Esso XD3 Extra, 0W30 following it.
I recently bought 12 litres at:

M.R. Smith
Esso Commercial Card Lot
3100 Underhill
Burnaby, BC (in Lake City, just off Lougheed)
604-420-4331

Cost: $4.28/litre plus GST & PST = $4.88/litre.

They had to bring the oil in from Edmonton and it took a few days.

It's going to be used in a 95 Maxima which is just approaching 60K, mostly highway miles. The car has seen 5W30 dino oil its entire life, mostly Castrol GTX.
