Good and bad things about the state you live in?

Iowa here. Live in the Loess Hills. Not flat corn ground as people suspect and very beautiful. Many good fishing and hunting spots. (especially if you know a few farmers) Google Loess Hills.

Bad: Tornados. floods, snow and ice. heat and humidity.

NH: good life, weather(constant changes with very short extremes cold or hot) , no real crime, nature amazing , pretty , clean, very few taxes. Year round recreation opportunities , amazing seasons . Mountains, lakes, ocean not far away.

Downsides: college is expensive in state (no tax base to support), getting expensive especially energy cost to

No state income tax, no vehicle inspections or wheel tax. The downside to that is 7% state sales tax which ends up being 9.5 - 9.75% depending on local rates. Food is taxed, but the state rate is 4% plus local taxes which puts it at 6.5 - 6.75%. Beautiful mountains where I live with good hunting and fishing if you’re into that. We have hot and humid summers and typically mild winters.

South Dakota here. Winters can be mild or terrible you just never know. Lots of potholes in our city even though we pay very high taxes. Excellent hospitals but housing is very high as well as housing and apartment rent. Wages are all over the board. We have a Missouri river that runs through the center of the state and the fishing is good to excellent depending on the year. They use a lot of salt on the roads and vehicles rust out after about 10 years depending on several factors. Pheasant hunting and ice fishing are good to excellent. We have the best governor....at least that's what everyone tells me when I visit other states.

No income tax - they will get you on property tax, however people know they have a choice there … It does reduce/freeze at 65 …

Like spending time on the coast 👣 - but there’s hurricanes …

Seldom snow/ice or road salt. Very hot summers 🥵

Like small towns here - only hit the city for shopping or medical …

No traffic, no crowds, no income tax, no tax on food. 5% on all other goods. Property taxes are slightly high, car tabs too. Winter weather here is atrocious with very few peers. I am always hearing about how bad it is on Mt. Washington back East. Is there actually a town up there? I imagine if you went to the top of the mountains out here, 14,000 feet? The weather may rival Mt. Washington for wind, cold temperatures etc. Not!

Good:
Low COL
Great gun laws
Fairly conservative
Not taxing social security anymore
Some snow in winter
Decently close to mountains and hills
Not touristy
Good hunting/fishing
Good recreational lakes/camp areas

Bad:
Property taxes
Terrible veteran/disabled veteran benefits
Humid af and hot in summers
Not being near huge bodies of water

We just did a week in Custer/Deadwood/Badlands at the beginning of June. Absolutely gorgeous and weather was like 70-75 but no humidity. It was amazing

AZ:
Pros: Great weather about 7 months of the year
Amazing food
No problems parking, and you don’t need to pay to park anywhere
Beautiful scenery in lots of parts of the state
I feel really comfortable in AZ around the people and how everything works. Some states are just weird.

Cons: Heat
Really not much else I can complain about.

Maine:

When I set up housekeeping here 25+ years ago it has a low cost of living. My 2 BR apartment in a "remuddled" mansion was $400 a month including heat!

Within the last few years though it got "discovered" and rent is the same as Boston. 🤬 Good thing I own my home though! We have a lot of old people and getting a contractor or doctor is a hassle.

Yeah the cars rust out but once they turn 25 you don't need a title and can run antique plates without an inspection. Speed limits hit 70-75 and the effective one is higher still.

Heating oil costs money but firewood's cheap and cozy to burn. This summer has been humid which sucks but maybe I can blame el nino. There really are four seasons.

There's an ocean not far to my east but it's clogged with tourists. September-October are awesome.

Driving anywhere else in the country means a day getting out of the northeast and all its traffic on the same route. Then another getting through PA.

Lots of little taxes but no ball busting huge ones. My real estate is $2600 a year, subsidized by "lake people."

As a fellow NH guy, I agree. I’d also add…power outages, can’t stand those things. But I LOVE this state…people are nice compared to where I’m from (Mass). Traffic is easier to navigate. My taxes are higher but I’m getting so much for my money right now (space, privacy, scenery, more house, etc).

I mountain bike, NH is perfect for that. If I want to see mountains I can see mountains, if I want ocean it’s right there.

Speaking of lake people, just looked at a house on Greatmoose Lake the other day. Loved the lake, the house not so much. The drive absolutely killed me (3 hours), plus 20 bucks in tolls round trip and a full tank of gas. But I love Maine. Portland is my favorite city, and I’ve spent many summers up in Wells/York/Kennebunkport.

Good Afternoon folks. I live in Pennsylvania. Good things I like are fishing areas, state parks, cool towns, history sites like Gettysburg and no tax on food and clothing. Bad things are horrible roads, property tax, turnpike and lack of drive in movie theaters.
Good Things, some of the top rated dining establishments in the country in Colorado. We have four pizza restaurants in the top 10 or so in the entire country. The bad, the Governor, Californians, Tesla Owners, and ridiculously high living costs.

Florida.

Good if you have a decent job and able to afford lifestyle. Sunshine most of the time, not too crazy hot.
80% of the roadways in very good condition, especially the highways / Turnpike.
Lots of things to do on the weekends.

Bad:
Housing gotten very expensive for cookie cutter homes, crazy insurance rates, taxes going up,
More cars on the roads, especially in the city. You have to plan your trips to avoid traffic jams.
Very humid summers and sometimes crazy weather in summer….. 7-10 days of rain.
I’m seeing more poverty and crime in areas that were decent areas 10 years ago.
Getting a direct hit by a hurricane once in a long while.
