Purolator Gold Walmart X2
Nothing strange to see
A few wide gaps but nothing torn or crazy
5,000 miles

For $4.25
What filter is that ?
Maybe a Premium Guard EX filter. Rockauto has them for $4.50-$5.00. Build quality pretty nice in those. Also, the PentiusXL filters are around $5. Also a really nicely built filter.

I don’t think either are marketed at 20K, but if that Purolator can do 20K, so could they. I wouldn’t run any of them that long. My .02.

This is what I was trying to get at with it all. I don’t expect inconsistent media pleats with a filter like this. I’ve cut open and see the lower end red and tech Purolators look better.

However, that being said, I am not saying the media quality is better or worse across these filters. I am just saying that the lower end filter seem to have a better build quality, but most likely worse media.

For instance, here.

Shipping with rock auto is not cheap anymore
Add another $6 to $7 bucks

Pleat spacing uniformity could be improved some, but otherwise looks clean and like it got the job done at 5k miles. WCW had similar result recently with an LX7317.

Thanks for c&p.

Topic filter has a more centered bypass valve than I remember on Purolator. They added nubs to hold the spring centered. Maybe it was there before and never noticed. Nice filter, made USA. A little more $ gets the Boss which uses a different glue and is full synthetic not a blend. To keep USA I probably will merge to those. But merging will take awhile with a bunch of filters stashed in a box.
