GM, what a useless website

Neighbor just bought a new Acadia Denali with all the toys. So, thought I'd check it out on the GMC website. Surprised to find no 360 view, and only several slide show pics including one of the wheels. I thought poorly done, guess I'm not the only one.

This in contrast to the Hyundia Sonata which has a 360 exterior view and separate angle views of interior in a 360 design.

For the record nothing against GM, but I agree with the OP, websites could use improvement.

Alright Nick R, this one is for you!

Genuine GM. You have to admit this dash is over the top. I had to stare at it for a minute before I came in to post this. I got shivers just posting this. Look at the real analog oil pressure gage!

I do like it. I admit, this is one of my favorite clusters.

What car is that out of? .. you got some DANGEROUSLY low oil pressure, OP.

Guess this car!

That Ford cluster is pretty good, considering some of the garbage clusters they used in that era.

Now, for my two cents on safety. Sure, there are vehicles today that aren't as safe as they "could be." Modern vehicles, as a whole, do quite well. The old, old big iron might have held its own in a collision, but not for the occupants. The vehicles saved their own skin not so bad, but not necessarily the skin of the occupants.

Look at the volt gauge. No voltage there means the ignition is off and the engine isn't running. PRNDL and odo isn't lit up either.

Even so, figure hot oil pressure at idle being 15-20 psi or so, the needle would be at less than the 1/4 mark on the gauge. Completely normal, yet seems "dangerously low" because it's not in the happy medium where all the other gauges are. This is why we all have idiot lights disguised as gauges now.

Wow, ma'am, you are amazing! It's funny how you (a person whom I've never met and has never seen my vehicle) describing to another person (whom I've never met or has seen my vehicle) describing the idosyncrasies of my gauge cluster and engine oil pressures.

It would be more becoming of you to ask questions than to merely blurt things out like you do.

For the record, yes, the vehicle ('05 Astro), was off and has been sitting for a day. There is also a little more than 3/4 tank of fuel.

The oil pressure gauge has never, ever read that low with the engine running. If I turn the key to the "on" position this very moment, the needle would drop to zero (as would the temp gauge needle). Start the engine and the oil pressure needle will shoot up to a hair above 60.

On the hottest of days and after the hardest run on the engine using 5W or 0W-30, the needle on the oil pressure gauge at idle will drop to just below the first mark before the 40 mark. I'm so used to it being like that, I would freak if it went lower.

But thanks for trying MrsHorspwer. In the future you may want me to handle the questions involving me and my vehicles.

The problem with most of the subcomnpact cars is that they only typically include three gauges: Speedo, tach, and fuel. Look at the Fit. Big tach on the left, big speedo in the middle, and a big fuel gauge and PRNDL on the right. Guess which one looks completly out of place? Yaris is the same way; the fuel gauge is the same size as the tach.

Edit: Just browsed by the Toyota site. Think the Equinox pictures are bad? Look at the interior pics for the Yaris. Seven pictures, two of them are simply the radio, and one is a photo of a Domokun USB drive plugged into the USB port.

What about this one, out of the old lumina? Jeez.

Also, GM needs to buy a wide angle lens; most of the pictures are close ups of the stitching on the steering wheel or the gas gauge or some [censored]. Again, I want to see the "whole picture". Sad/Glad BITOG was able to outdo the 2nd largest carmaker in the world.

Hey HEY!

Is this a simplest instrument cluster contest?!?!?!?!

If so, my VW has you all beat!!!!

Feast your eyes on the bare MINIMUM!

15na7nn.jpg

(srry for the bad cell phone pic and over exposed sun glare)

It has indicator lights for everything. And Considering temp/volt/pressure gauges in today's cars do not give true readings but are for the most part glorified indicator lights, that's fine by me.

I like how easy and quick it is to glance at while driving.

And how the design is simple and clean.

I HATE all the new econo compacts from almost every car maker out there now. I just can't get into the "Alien space ship" interior car makers are using nowadays.

Nope, the contest is for the best cluster. Not having a temperature gauge means automatic disqualification!

Now that is what I call a SIMPLE dash! lol

It's crazy what 200 years of innovation can look like!!!

The simple dash and instrument cluster was actually a selling point for my sister when she bought her 2011 Jetta.

This is my car's layout. For the center display I have it so it just shows the time, temp outside, and oil temperature.

If the engine wasnt running there would be no temperature of !200 indicated! Also, that cluster could be faulty.

But you bring up an interesting point.. what cars have gauges that "Go back down to zero" when the car turns off and which dont?

Also good point for Hot Idle. Doesnt need to be all that much. Unless his oil is too thin! Now if it was that when he was DRIVING i think there may be a problem.

I still think the car was on. We COULD have nonfunctioning Voltmeter and nonilluminated PRNDL.. it is an 80s vehicle..
Oh btw, did you guess the car? Ill give you a hint, its a weird one. Call it "The German version of an American compact by Ford." I cant give it away more than that. small car.. an oddity.

Before I bought my 2011 forester I drove the equinox It was the second choice.. if we didnt have scuzzbag chevy dealers and they werent selling like hotcakes at 100 below MSRP I would have probably purchased one.

The bad: handling compared to small car, numb steering.

The good: Room, noise, gas mileage
