I loved that dude, he was hillarious. This isn't as funny because this is an American company that won't solve its problems as long as it denies them.
Sell short.
How about they make a Fuel efficient car for once on their own intead relying on the Koreans and the Japanese. They made a fuel efficient V8 on the Corvette, how about a small 4 banger?

That quote is funny on many levels: 1) If all the analysts bought cars and visited a dealership, then would they be right? 2) I own a car, and I've visited a GM dealership. GM has more cars getting over 30mpg than any other MFR selling cars in the US, methinks. Let's give credit where credit is due.
GM has no "media darling" hybrids.
Toyota has the Prius, but gets a pass on their non-car offerings because of it. Over half their lineup consists of trucks, SUVs and a minivan. Not fuel-sipping enonoboxes.
Not bashing Toyota here.
Nor am I saying GM is the greenest company around.

What did you mean?
1) GM has sold more cars in total that get over 30mpg than any other manufacturer selling in the US
2) GM has more cars in their current (2006) lineup that get over 30mpg than any other manufacturer selling in the US
3) GM has sold more cars in the last XXX years that get over 30mpg than any other manufactuer that sells in the US
4) Something else

GM has 14 cars in it's model lineup for '06 that get 30 mpg highway or better. The G6, Aveo and Vibe are tied for the best at 34 mpg. Surprisingly, some rather big cars, like the Buick LaCrosse, are on that list.
Models offered.
Sure, it's in an advertisement, and like all statistics you can look at them in a number of ways, but no one else offers 19 models at 30+ mpg.
As a percentage of models offered/sold, it may not be as great as some companies. And we may or may not like any of these models.
But like I stated, let's give the domestics credit where credit is due.
Same car with different badges = many models.
How many of those models are the same platform sold under differnt marquis?
How many are designed by "competitors"?
