Gloves for oil change?

I swear by black nitrile gloves for all mechanical work now. I buy them a size too big so as my hands sweat I can just pour it out. They don't affect my feel for anything I need to do on the car and I no longer have to use barrier cream or spend ages scrubbing the grease out of my skin/nails. I keep a pack of them in the back of the car for any roadside assistance or just-in-case.

I don't glove up...but I don't bathe in the products either.

LOL, back in transmission in 1990, they made us read this paper that transformer oil was carcinogenic...it certainly is...but the lengths that had to be gone to to give the rats skin cancer, in application rates and frequency was pretty high.

So an oil change a month or whatever I don't worry.

If I worked at JiffyLube, I would.

Same here. I typically wait for HF to have a sale and load up on them.

I was not happy with the frequency of tearing of the gloves I got at Costco and Wal Mart. The ones I have bought at Home Depot and online on Zoro have been better - they are more expensive. Changing gloves with sweaty hands is not easy. I keep a shaker bottle of body powder in the garage. When you have to change gloves sprinkle a little powder on your hands and you can get the next ones on without ripping them.

Those 'surgical type' gloves drive me crazy after a few minutes-hands sweat and I don't like the feel of them. I use 'mechanix' gloves when doing work where I don't want to get banged up. I get very little used oil on my fingers/hands changing oil and use a bit of the fresh oil to help clean up

Been changing my own oil since I was 15 back in 1958, have yet to wear gloves when doing it.

Guess what, I'm still here!

if you choose not to wear gloves, a tip is to use some lotion or something on your hands before starting, so there is at least some layer of protection.

This doesn't specifically repel stuff, but it a bit easier to cleanup your hands without needing as much scrubbing or soaps or your usual cleanup routine; and therfore giving your skin a bit of a break.

Yea there's also a bunch of guys who never wore sunscreen or hats and still kicking it without skin cancer and only slightly leathery faces, just like the 80year old smokers who don't have lung cancer.

Doesn't mean everyone else is going to win the lottery.
