Give dog up or beg?

My dogs mean the world to me, even if they are designer mutts (a Morky and a Maltipoo). If I fell on hard times, I would be heartbroken if it came down to the position the OP is in. My wife has battled Lyme Disease for 2 years, so I know how bad it can be.

LeakySeals, please add me to the PM list. I would like to help. My thoughts and prayers are with you buddy.

To those detractors:if you don't have something positive to say, please don't say anything at all. It is easy to criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. I hope you never have to, but I also hope you become more empathetic.

Also, may I ask what the little guys name is?

If you get it through the vet it always costs a lot more. Some vets won't give a scrip for med's that allows you to go to a pharmacy where, if available, it can be had for less. My vet will if you ask. Sounds to me like the OP may need a new vet for a variety of reasons?

Very true. Our dog is part of the family.

Just PM me with your PayPal No thanks needed.

Normally i would just do this by PM but i would like others to look into their own hearts.

+1. I'd love to contribute because I'd hate for you to lose your friend in such a way. We were woken up one morning to our cat having a blood clot and had to put her down at 4am. I'd hate for anyone to go through such trama with their pet, so I hope I can do my part to help.

Its a shame vets rape people so bad on examines and prescriptions. Florida is the worst. So many people retire here, lose their mate and get a dog or cat and the vets rip them off silly. I love animals, but they are just property. Its a shame so many go without simple fixs or meds, just because the vets want a. Hollywood style clinic. What costs 500 in florida, you can get for 50 in Pa.

Yep, the generic at Walgreens is like $10.

Add me to your PM list; we have 2 GS mixed and I would hate to be in a position where I could not care for them.

My sympathies, LS. I hope you're able to find a workable solution. There have been some good suggestions offered up, and some very generous offers of help.

Makes me so thankful for our small-town, old-fashioned vet clinic. Last week, our cat had a growth removed from her back (about the size of a pencil eraser - the vet believed it to be an inflamed oil gland). He examined her, then the next day anesthetized her, removed the growth, and stitched her up. Today they removed the stitches. Total cost was just under $70, tax included.

They charge it because they can and the market accepts/absorbs the cost.

So long as people are willing, and the monopoly is maintained on stuff like prescriptions, what do you expect?

That's an argument for another day, and it stinks to see people in such a predicament, but its no different for MDs, Lawyers, HVAC contractors, etc.

Thats almost as bad as getting rid of their pet cause the place they move to doesnt allow pets. I will never let my pets down. Ever. Hope your dog is worth the 65 $. I think it is. And yes I would beg or steal for mine.

Holy.
So the op has a job for the past 20 years that has raised and educated his children, kept vehicles running etc and he's already feeling like a bag of [censored] because he's been emasculated as the breadwinner, then you tee him up and kick him in the nut he's got left. And you refer to the country and the state of despair its in and now we know why, because of people like you.
If we all kick in 10 bucks the dogs has its meds and I get to get rid of some of the change all over my cars floor.
You weren't trying to be a **** but you certainly accomplished the task.

I understand.
Some days I ask myself, "How'd we end up with a Chihuahua? (chuckle)". She can be a bit of a "fireball", but always sweet to the family. Sometimes I'll call her over and hoist her into my lap while working at the computer. She'll fuss a bit until she calms down. Then after a little, she'll settle in and relax, you can just feel the tension leave her body, close her eyes and maybe start snoring. That moment is PURE GOLD.
So, I understand.

Good luck with your Chihuahua. Lots of good ideas in this thread, better than what I could have come up with. It will work out.

I can honestly say if my dog was sick enough to die,I would beg borrow and steal to get the money to keep him alive.
Many can say its just a dog but the truth of the matter is that its not. Its a family member, loved just as much but in a different way.
I spend more time with my dog then my kids, because the dog comes with me to work, and pretty much everywhere actually.
The sun will shine on ya leaky seals, and its gonna work out.
