I'm sitting on about 5 gallons myself. In NY, it's a law that any place that sells oil must take it. I'll take it to Sam's Club as I just drop it off at a waste oil container in the parking lot. A quick lube place is another alternative. It's amazing that they have to take it from non customers for free, but charge paying customers a disposal fee.

This makes as much sense as paying the phone company not to be in the phone book.

Canadian Tire always works for me. Take as much as you want. We've dumped up to 30L in their barrel at one stop.

How can I dispose of my used oil. I have about 20L of used oil and non of my local shops are willing to take it!

Ps. I am located in toronto Canada.

I don't know about laws up north but here anyplace that sells motor oil is required to also take in used motor oil for recycling.

Does your town dump have any idea? Read the recycling section where they say what to do with old washing machines., etc. or ask the guy. Mine has a waste-oil furnace.

Here in upstate NY, we are allowed to dispose of 10 quarts of motor oil per week with our regular garbage pickup so long as its in a sealed bottle and clearly labled as used motor oil.

we have the same law. bring it to canadian tire or something. 20L is a lot though, bring half per visit

In Mississauga I can take it to my local landfill site, and they've got a section that takes the oil and oil filters. I'm sure every city in this area has it's own dump that can take your oil.

Our town garage and dump station heats with waste oil burners, so I dispose of it there. Some bigger garages have these burners and will take it off your hands for free. It free fuel for them!
