I've got a 2007 Toyota V8 4Runner 4 x 4 and need to replace the factory fill gear oil in the front diff, rear diff and transfer case.

Went to the Redline web site and did some reading. Of course I could go with some heavy-duty Shockproof Synthetic gear oil.

For the regular use of the 4Runner inc. some light duty towing, I'm thinking the 75W-90 gear oil should do well in all three applications.

Toyota said 75W-90 is ideal for Colorado's weather and I used the Mobil 1 75W-90 dino gear oil in my previous Toyota pickups.

Thoughts, experiences or recommendations re: the Redline synthetic gear oil choice?

What is really nice about Redline oil is they have an 800#,,,1-800- 624-7958 and they like their customers! call them.

Is there a 75w-110 available from redline? I might consider using a 75w-90 in the xfer and front diff, then a 75w-110 in the rear since it will see more power more often and the 110 is the heavier end of what used to be the 90 range. Depends upon your use profile and sump capacity too, IMO.

Appreciate the comments.

Called Redline, good tech guy on the phone. He recommended the 75W-90 in the front and rear diffs and transfer case. I 'could' go with the 75W-140 for the rear diff but he thought it was 'too much' for the intended purposes.

And I stand corrected, the Mobil 1 75W-90 is synthetic, not dino. Had an older container lying around and that's what I put into the last Toyota pickup 4 x 4.

so no 75w-110 from redline?

lack of availability of that would make me consider Amsoil SVG, which is very good.

How is Redline lacking availability???? Jegs Summit, amazon, hundreds of race shops, Redlines own website...... He prefers Redline. He doesn't need 75w-110. Just because amsoil touts that doesn't make it so. 75w-90 meets toyotas spec. Oh and Amsoil is fine, but not everyone prefers to have it force fed to them.

I have used Redline 75w-90 in my tacoma for 90k miles. Excellent product! I usually get mine from amazon or Jegs. Very fast shipment. Usually see it in about 2-3 days. Its hard to beat Redlines customer service. It really matches their premium product. I cant say enough about Dave over at RL.

75W90 is the way to go. 75W110 could run hotter. Unless you are doing lots of slow speed crawling at very high torque, a 75W90 is perfect for you.

Wow, what a response! lack of availability of my recommended 75w-110 was my basis for looking at amsoil, not lack of availability of redline lubes... Perhaps you should think about ways to comprehend a posting before coming back with such an attitude.

He can run 75w-90, he can run 75w-110. He mentioned towing, how is it not true that a bit more viscosity in what USED TO BE the 90 RANGE could be a good thing?

Who is force feeding Amsoil? Not me. Im just recommending an alternative product that is very good. No need to go off because you love redline so much. Personally, I didnt find redline to be "all that". The MTL looses shift quality faster than the amsoil MTL I now use, and their diff oil causes the diff to get noisier faster than the SF lube Im currently using. To each their own experiences and situations, but calm down.

Take my response however you like. I'm in no way "in love" with RL. Quite an ignorant statement on your part. When a member posts about a specific product, ie RL gear oil, they don't need you to convince them to use another product. Amsoil makes great lubricants and I happen to use some of them. I do however prefer RL in certain applications. There is really no proven benefit of going to a 75w-110 in a diff specifying 75w-90. Will it hurt? No but its not needed.

Well said.

Where did you order it from?

I had a 4Runner up to a year ago and only used Mobil 1 fluid it it. Ran like new until my son totaled it. A buddy had a 4runner and used Mobil 1 in it and put 300K miles on it and sold it a few years ago.

Both Mobil syn or Redline would work great in your Toyota.
