I swore I would never be the old guy going 45 mph in an old pickup truck yet here I am being the one holding up traffic every single time I get on the road. Time sure does fly.

ROTFL..... Me too.
I made same swear/oath. Did my best trying to die by high mph as young kid.

Now the wife can't stop saying two things when we riding. "Speeeed up grandpa!"
The one she really gets a kick out of and can't stop laughing about is "Turn the blinkers off old man."

Getting old. Am I getting too old too fast knocking on 70yrs? How does one know?
Here is a darn good clue for any mature motor head/addicts out there.

The wife tells you something like mine has told me several times recently. "You know how bad you want one, just go ahead and do it. Why don't you stop dreaming. Just go out buy one of those Chargers, or the Challenger like you been wanting for so long?"

Now for it. The clue you may be about past your Automobile Fun Times Expiration Date?

Your wife has told you those very words. Your wife means it. You know she means it. You been with her long enough to know it. This is not one of those "Wife must test the Husband traps" that some women have in their blood. You are 100% certain that it is not a set up.
You even tell yourself ..... "She says "DO IT ALREADY!"

Now, just because I know it is NOT what we need. Not the best idea at this time. I can not let myself do it. Why not? Because with both of us dealing with bad backs, necks, knees, hips etc.... I know inside we need an old timer / soccer mommy SUV.

The Young Me would already be sitting out in the back yard shop at 10:00pm at night with my radio going. Just staring at either the Charger or Challenger. Just admiring the near 20/30 coats of polish/wax/glaze/detailer I would already have sweated over.
YUP, not getting OLD, already there. Physically and now mentally too.

Oh well. Those grandkids deserve to ride in a safe SUV and not in any more Grand paw's low flying highway toys. :sneaky:

But if one ages gracefully :-) - it seems there are lot of young ones out there who love vintage cars :-)

Its a plus if one is naturally attractive.

I never knew getting older can be this fun. Its such a great feeling. However good health is a must imho.

;)100% correct on the health. You can do nothing without it.

Yeah man, i would pick good health over finances.

It doesn't mean hours in the gym, which may actually be counter-productive. Good health to me would can also be described by the analogy of the hmm of a finely tuned car wherein everything is in order. The ability to have a brisk morning walk with no aches and pains is such a blessing.

Mind says GO !!!!!! Body says NO !!!!!! That's what I'm dealing with now. Back pain, knee pain, host of other medical conditions. Use to break dawn on a job..an all niter..Now..put me in the ICU.

We have a lot in common I can tell from those words. Working, even the hard work, for me was not a burden to me like some say it is.

No, the hard work was not a burden. Use to swap big V-8 engines using nothing but a come along and a tree branch, by myself, and lining up torque converter and bell housing using a floor jack. Then set the 2 connected pieces into the motor mounts, by myself. Now,,,, I would wake up in a night sweat from a bad dream if I had to do that. Back then it was " FUN", not even just a job to do. I'll be 59 in a few months and dreading just putting in new headlamps in my 13' CRV. The old ones are too far gone to try to get the yellowing off. New ones have been sitting in my spare parts room for months. Had to get back surgery first. Still recovering from that. Time flies Sammy. Have a garage full of tools. 1/2 of which I can't even use anymore :( ......Sux to get old.....

Ah.... the good old come-a-longs saved me on many occasions. They got to being a must have in my work trucks. I'll even guess, like me you probably attacked some jobs that were in the (2) come-a-long categories. LoL. I am 69 and many days feel 79. Body making me pay for what I put it thru in younger years. Wow. The last lines of your words could have been written word for word by me.
I have not even walked into my back yard shop in ages. It was once a hub of activity for years. There was either auto or boat repairs, gearing up for hunting or fishing trip or big time cooking taking place.
Each Friday I was off (worked Mon-Thur 4 ten hour days) the working stopped for the cooking. Cooking either big time seafood or jambalaya in my iron pots for when the sons got home from school with the girlfriends for the weekends. Likely full of dust and spiderwebs right now. You are so right. Every week I hope to try to get active again but something seems to stop it. Your last words TRUE to some of us. I am happy for those who are still able to be very active as they get old.

Yes, the 2 come along days too...Actually, I still have two. Haven't touched them in years. Yes Sammy, we are paying for the abuse we did to ourselves now, but you don't think about that when you're in you're teens, 20's, 30's, even 40's. I too, am glad for the guys still wrenchin into their 80's, as an older post had mentioned. I hope they keep going as long as they could too. Bless them :) ....

87 as of Feb25th and still changing my oil & filter. Getting much more difficult to get up from under my CX5. :(
(y) Bravo to you Sir! I know it feels great to continue doing some thing for one's self. Not much here:( but I refuse to give up trying.

I pray you are not or ever visited with some of the pains or illness that sometimes come along with older age.

I'm 72 and haven't slowed down much, including my driving. I drive slowly in neighborhoods and downtown areas - I always have - but driving with the flow of traffic at 90 mph across the Mojave desert or challenging my BMWs on my favorite remote and twisty mountain road is still part of who I am. That, plus maintaining a fully landscaped acre, maintaining four cars to a very high standard, maintaining everything house related, and riding my bicycles on hilly back roads 150 miles per week....it's what I do.
