I am going to buy a dirt bike for trail riding and in the dunes. I have been riding since I was 8 yrs. old raced motocross up into my late twenties I thought I was a good rider the biggest bike I owned was a CR 250, got married and sold my bike haven't ridden for about 15 yrs, I sure miss having a bike . I want to get back into it but for recreation only. My question is do I get a 250 or 450. I am 6 ft tall and weigh 225 lbs. I don't want a two stroke. four stroke this time what size do u recommend? And what make and model. I prefer Honda's wouldn't hesitate on Yamaha WR.

XR650, I say go with a big bore trail tuned bike. I would not want a 4 stroke mx bike too much maintenance and upkeep.

I want a CR500 super moto. I love my CR250, I wouldn't trade it for 2 4-strokes. Modern 4 stroke mx bikes need way more maintenance than two strokes. The trail tuned bikes should be a little better, but they are pushing those little 4 strokes too hard these days they just don't hold up.

Don't get a 450 4 stroke thinking it will be less maintenance. There will be far less with a comparable two stroke. The new high strung 4 strokes are very expensive to upkeep. It's not like the old xrs and such bikes that would go forever with no maintenance at all. Something like a KTM 300 2 stroke would be excellent for the type of riding you describe.

me myself i tend to agree with you i would get a 4 stroke without hesitation no oil mixing no plugs fouling no replacing the rings pistons etc etc etc if your trail riding that will last forever you will never have to do anything to it but normal maintenence i used to race also 125's 250's your gonna find out remember how peaky they where they are even more so now lol cause we are not kids i would get a 250 fairly light but plenty of torque i think youd be suprised by the 400-500's some of them are near 50 hp so you decide
