I'd just spend it on gas after I got the card.
I'd use the card to offset the money that I normally spend on fuel, then take that money and bank it.

I keep 50 gallons of gas on hand, would cycle that out and use the card to replace what I store

I'd use it immediately. The moment it hits my desk it gets forgotten about until it's time to wipe the dust off. I still have a few $40-60 gift cards from Tmobil, AMEX, and work that are several years old.

Just get a Visa instead that way you can just drink it instead
