What gives Maxlife its high detergency? High calcium levels?

Which parts did you look at to come to that conclusion? The camshaft lobes?

The camshaft lobes look fine to me.
For the rest, only light varnish considering the hard life it's living.

It's not all that bad. Consider that this is a 1 liter 3 banger engine. I don't remember if aircon was available but if so that would be some extra load. In that climate the aircon is a necessity.

Keep your oci short and check your air filter regularly. Make sure the intake is put together properly and sealed. The pollution alone will impact the filter a lot. This car is creeping along in gridlock with 90F plus temps with high humidity.

I've been in Manila many times. The traffic is nothing short of chaos and gridlock. A 2km trip can take one hour or more depending where you are.

In the manual it states that severe driving mileage is 7500km or 6 months. So I should follow that instead?

I would.

Thanks, and yes! This engine has been a trooper through anything I've thrown at it. 8 years old and still sounding smooth as butter.

That is spot on, Manila is like [censored] on wheels.
That said, do you think a top end oil like M1 AFE or an Amsoil SS could last the whole 1yr oci with that kind of load? Or best I should stick to cheaper oil and do the 7500km/6months OCI?

I would stick with cheaper yet good quality. AFE is excellent. One thing I would be concerned of is getting counterfeit oil. I'm sure you're okay if you buy it through reliable sources. The possibility is there though. 7500km should be fine.

There are counterfeit M1 AFE oils? Okay now I'm worried. I bought mine from importers in a 6 x 1qt M1 labelled box.

As long as the source is reliable it should be safe. Total is also a good brand. Caltex is big there as is Shell.

I wouldn't buy M1 from the local vulcanizing shop for example.
