I remember reading on here that straight toluene is probably your best bet as a fuel system cleaner

Toluene is also a formidable octane booster...prolly the best out there, but it is also extremely hard on all fuel system components, especially all kinds of gaskets, fuel pumps and injectors that have the solenoid in the fuel stream. Toluene will ruin the insulation on the solenoid coils in no time flat, then they short out and you will have to buy all new injectors. It also is extemely damaging to painted surfaced. If you ever spill it on painted surfaces on the car the paint will soon bubble and be stripped to the core metal.
I would NOT use toluene in a modern fuel injected engine.

Costco here sells 4 packs of Chevron Fuel Injector cleaner which seems to be different that the full strength Techron. Local autozone sells both but the Techron is priced considerably higher than the Chevron fuel injector cleaner.

Maybe it is the Proguard that Costco sells I don't remember looking that close, but they do sell the Cheveron Oil for $11.99 a case.

Uh..... Isn't toluene present in most premium gasolines?

NO !!! Definitly not !!! It is also cosidered carcinogen.............

Everything you ever wanted to know about Toluene but didn't want to admit you were unsure of the spelling (Posted Sept 3)

I look forward to input from MolaKule, Patman, etc on the Toluene issues....
BTW what about a little dash of ether in the gasoline? Would that be stupid and self-destructive, or have some merit??
Thanks
Rob

Is Neutra + FP really that much better than straight FP for cleaning intake valves and combustion chamber deposits? If so, I'll need to get some.

I agree that BG44k is good stuff. It is definitely stronger than Techron. I haven't tried Berryman's, though I've heard good things.

The experiences of the experts on this board, especially Mola, convinced me to try the Fuel Power, and so far, excellent. I think a gallon of FP plus shipping ($33) is cost-effective versus Techron, Redline (I used to use), and everything else, except SuperTech's 78 cent/12 oz. stuff. Is also a reputed upper cyl lubricant.

Is F/P the only product that a fuel system will ever need to stay clean and running properly?

My wifes Axiom has direct injection, and very expensive to have injectors replaced if clogged or any other malfunction. I want to keep them all in as good as condition as I can.

Just received my Gal Jug 2 weeks ago of F/P, and have plans on running it through every other tank full.

Or does a fella need to run a bottle of Techron through every now and then along with the F/P?

I have been using Fuel Power recently. Before using 3 tank fulls ago, I reset my AVG MPG in the trip computer. I quickly went back to the 20.3 where it was before. It stayed there, and then started climbing during the 2nd tank full, and is now up to 21.1. I am guessing that it took the computer a few tankfuls to adapt, but I have no scientific evidence.

However, it has really made a huge difference in the G&S on the lawn mower.

Doesn't Chevron ProGuard contain Techron?

"Doesn't Chevron ProGuard contain Techron?"

I believe it does. I thought all the Chevron fuel cleaners use the same stuff ... in different concentrations.

I ordered Fuel Power 2 days ago. I have an '03 Nissan 2.5L and I monitor the mileage religiously. If FP makes any change, I'll know about it for sure.

Bror- You probably won't notice much of a difference milage wise, but cleanliness is where the FP really shines. The boroscope inspection on the X after 7K of FP/Neutra showed almost spotless CCs. And the timing on the Max only retarded once with FP and 87 because of the additional fuel energy FP "unlocks". Neat stuff.

I have used B-12 since 1991 or 1992 in everything the family has every owned since then. Usualy 1 tank before an oil change you we would add one of two bottles of B-12 and drive 3/4 of the tank out. Change oil and refill the tank. I think that since we started doing this we have never had a clogged up injector or any other emission equipment carbon issues etc..

I am now useing Lucas because it is rather cheap and localy available. It also did well on Bobs tests. I can not say anything good or bad about Lucaus because I use it in a new car! It does improve gasmillage though. I drive my car like I am in a Rally race and it still sips the gas like a misser. THe only thing different about this car is my use of Lucas fuel additive at 6oz per tank fuel!
