Fuel Stabilizer Shelf Life

Does fuel stabilizer have a shelf life? I have an old bottle laying around but not sure how old it is. It's at least a couple of years old.

I've had Stabil break down in the bottle after 2 years. There was black residue and chunks in the bottom of the bottle.

I have a bottle, un-opened, that's been in the un heated garage for over two years. Looks fine.

Even though this is a month old thread I'll give my 2 cents worth. According to Sta-Bil, the shelf life of their product is 2 years after the bottle has been opened, provided it has been tightly capped and stored in a cool, dry place.

honestly, fuel stabilizer is a biggest scam in the business. ranks up there w/ tornado gas mileage booster.

It doesnt impress me. I think the gas stabilizer actually caused "more" problems with the fuel system.
